One curious, and rather worrying thing is that the public debate in the US seems (and we're far from the first to notice) so politicized that people first consider whether something is leftwing or rightwing, rather than considering the facts. Which is why we prefer 'evidence based' policy, things that have a proven trackrecord of working.
