The average car gets 25 mpg and the average daily commute is under 40 miles per day the saving from a plug-in electric car would provide huge savings.100 million x (40 miles/25mpg) = 160 million gallons of gasoline saved per day.1 barrel of oil produces 20 gallons of gas. Therefore a GM Volt would save 8 million barrels of oil per day.there is plenty of up-in-coming technology too. I mentioned once here a year ago about BYD. They are going to start importing a Volt like car into the US in 2011 and the cost without subsidy is 22,500.There are tons of breaking technologies on Batteries too. I really think we have the way out of peak oil, but the door is only going to stay open too long. We need to pass the Pickens Plan and get moving on the battery technology.

I don’t know how the Audi President is calculating his numbers of 1.5 million barrels saved by Diesel being the only route to stop importing from Saudi Arabia.

If we assume 1/3 of America’s is 100 million.
