If IOC closes higher today, I believe odds favor it moving into some type of uptrend. This is the right place after Option Exp rollover and OBV is will give us a little buy signal if higher today. With Motley Fool bear article today, shorts are wanting this stock to not get away on upside for now. IMO, odds favor they ‘re on a short fuse from here to do damage. We’ll see

We got our wish trans. Looked for a while like we would close red, but nice push at close again to finish green. Almost as if some news is on the horizon. We are inside the 7-day window where drilling results could start coming.

Yup Palm, the last 20 minutes looked like somebody was trying to get out instead of get in, if you know what I mean.

Almost 25% of the volume the last 20 minutes.

Trans and Lib, as our TA trend guys I was just noticing something. 3 times in the last 5 years, starting in the spring of 2009 when Ant 2 was going gangbusters, IOC has exceeded its 200 MA and when it did, it has had a very nice ride up. Spring of 2009 was the first, Fall of 2010 was the 2nd, and Jan 2012 started a third leg.

All of these moves have been while good fairly major news was cooking (1. Spud Ant2/Ant2 results/approval of PA, Mitsui JVA/Offering, SD process/Spud T2). Think we are geting ready for another nice move up?

Nice premiums coming back into calls. MM’s smell buyers, imo

Petrovale

Trans, thank you. For my info, where do you see option premiums?

February 23, 2012 at 12:07 pm #7882

trans

u can find them on various, almost all, quote systems. who do you deal through? they should have option chains etc. where u can periodically check changes in premiums, which i regard as an indication of what the MM’s see in order flow etc.

It looks like we have had our pullback, consolidation, and the turn. Next leg looks higher.

Trans,

Nice pull.

What do you see happening next? We’ve had two days in a row with over 20% of the volume in the last half hour.

My best guess is ioc is moving into a 68-71 range, maybe another 1-2 daysof followthrough to upside, but we’re also in a news window. Last hr volume here is likely positive last 2 days, buyer in there imo. maybe another small pullback from 68+-71 area, say 1-2 days, then I suspect IOC would then be coiled to spring higher, on most likely drilling update. Regardless tho, I believe we’re in early stages of renewed uptrend with some whipsaw action on the way. best guess..This all should lead to test of old highs 80+, imo. A little more work to do likely first.

I know its hard to believe, but someone is picking up stock even tho IOC is being pressured lower in price. OBV patterns intraday show there is no let up in this stealth accumulation, imo.

Interesting numbers developing on today’s trading. We will get a “volume reversal” buy signal if IOC closes higher today on 877,000 or higher volume today. Those are pretty good short term signals and would raise good odds of a run into the 60′s next several days. Usually good for 3-5 day uptrends. fwiw

Trans, why 877,000 or higher volume?

March 13, 2012 at 11:03 am #8582

The point of MAX PAIN for the March options series is $60. Unless some astounding news is issued before the end of the week, there will likely be a anchoring to the $60 strike price.

Having said that, funny things can happen if something gets out of hand.

Let there be leaks.

Monday could be most interesting.

10:01 EDT Rumor: InterOil moves up on conjecture regarding a well discovery

Nice spike from $57 up to $60 in minutes on the news! Looks like a squeeze is setting up.

Petro, google OBV and you’ll see the explaination. But simply, you’re measuring accumulation or distribution on a daily basis, a down day’s volume is distribution, and vice versa. What u want to do is to accumulate more volume going higher than the last accumulation top. That was 3/8 with close of 60.08. Since then you’ve had 2 days of distribution that you have to emerge up thru. the down volume of 3/9 and 3/12. If we trade 877,000 shares and close higher today, you go higher than the OBV on 3/8. That raises odds that if supply/demand is normal, the stock price shuld follow the OBV accumulation higher. hope that explains….

Petro, its the sudden reversal of trading volume that gives volume reversal buy and sell signals. In this case, yesterday was a DOWN, meaning distribution exceeded the last DOWN day. Today, we have the opportunity to register a DOWN followed directly buy an UP volume reversal. That either way, is usually accompanied by price reversals that have follow through.

Based on open interest it looks like they will try to close it below 60 for sure on Friday and maybe below 55. Looks like the criminal manipulation continues to me. What do you TA experts have to say at this point?

March 14, 2012 at 1:10 pm #8625

ebster123

What needs to be one or the SEC to follow up on all this manipulation by the shorts??

March 14, 2012 at 1:11 pm #8626

trans

Still don’t see an advantage for marketmakers to close below 60. 60-62.5 looks best from their standpoint and I always figure the option marketmakers are writers of the options. Check both put and call OI on each strike and imagine yourself the marketmaker who write the options.. But I’m not an expert on options. I see close Friday north of 60, fwiw
