Play MPE® Signs Sony Australia to Exclusive Distribution Agreement

VANCOUVER , Feb. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Destiny Media Technologies (DSY.V) (DSNY) is pleased to announce that, effective March 1, 2014 , Play MPE® will be the exclusive supplier of digital distribution services to Sony Music Entertainment Australia for promotional delivery of audio content in Australia .

Play MPE® is the promotional music distributor for Universal Music Australia, EMI Australia, Warner Music Australia, and now Sony Music Australia, as well as many independent record labels in Australia .

"We are very pleased to sign our first contract with Sony Music in Australia ," said Fred Vandenberg , Chief Financial Officer for Destiny Media Technologies. "With this agreement, we expect that virtually all major radio music distribution in Australia now flows through Play MPE®, benefiting our record label customers and recipients."

If Sony has a market percentage in Australia that matches it stake here in the US this is a very good sign.
Perhaps that SA hatchet job of an article which tried to make us believe its a lousy product could explain, or Universal (who signed a worldwide contract with DSNY last year) how this could happen..

And you don't want to know the margins on PlayMPE..

But if you do want to know, they're close to 100%, as it's an almost completely automated process. But the financials are masked by investments in Clipstream.
Art, developments are going slow, it's a small company and they're rather meticulous and don't take the next step until they're ready. Clipstream is also new technology, adoption by big organizations will be slow as these are conservative. But margins on Clipstream are also high, the market for streaming media is big and growing rapidly, that is, they only need a fraction to improve their financials materially.

I really liked their announced targeting approach. Using Clipstream itself to get the message out to potential user just makes sense. iPhone,Explorer, buddy's Android, Chrome.. if the message plays well everywhere it should perk interest.
Seeing a material gain like this is just fantastic, and really what the doctor ordered in stabilizing the wild trading that took place over the last 3 months. Glad to see it, especially as it shows that plaympe isn't somehow 'stuck' with Universal Music Group, and that others like this product too. Good all around.

There are two problems. First is that progress is slower than people seemed to assume but we simply forget that it's a small company and big tech will not instantly bet on a new technology from such a small company. Second, we don't have a stable investor base. When the stock fell, it breached certain levels which obliged some of the institutional holders to sell, accelerating the selling and leading to exaggerated gloom and doom all around.

These are teething problems, the company is moving forward, I think there is still some good window to buy, but ultimately this will be a good performer, especially from these levels.

Is there a way to value the recent transaction with Shazam? Or is that something that we'd need to wait on a conference call to hear.

Shazam? I have a feeling this might be for the NQ forum, RedLetter..

Destiny signed a licensing agreement with Shazam a few days ago.
