Guessing there is no conference call tomorrow... - johnwgrant - 12-06-2013

(since they did not announce one in the press release)

Although I have plenty of questions, many of the answers to my questions probably start with "it depends...".    A conference call that tells us "it depends" would be a mistake.  On the other hand, I hate it when the shorts use uncertainty to "spin" the facts to further their agenda.

So, do you think it "wise" to issue the PR and avoid a conference call, or, do you think they should hold a conference call and answer questions !?!?

They need to do a call for the sell side. I think MH "got" this. I trust him at this point.

Wise. Let the shorts impress each other with their negative interpretations tomorrow only to be shot down at a CC next week. Also Calio and other analysts can take careful aim. They too are probably sick of being fodder for short antics. Now at last is their chance to turn the screw.

I think no call would allow the shorts to play with the stock.  I can't remember a company with this significant of an announcement not holding a call.  They have bungled the message many times before but I think the new regime will deal with this appropriately.  They are talking to the sell side tonight so they can refine their models and have them ready top publish ahead of the call in the morning.  I would be shocked unless they literally signed the deal hours ago.  Still, I think they would know all the details and what they would have to convey to the market.  This has been one of IOCs achilles heels in the past.  If you are an institutional hodler you want/need call in the am before the open.

Yes cc on at 10:30 am EST.  Check the website.  What is unusual is its after the open. I am very surprised as this should be before the open to allow investors the time to digest the news.  For a company like IOC this could warrant the trading HALT we've all dreamed about but not sure that will happen.  This is a material event and should be aired before trading begins.  So even if you're short and think they will bungle the cc, what will you do in that hour before the call?  Very interesting stuff here.
