They have to make sure no one outside the Company has any information about the earnings untill they are offically released. If an "event" occurred that would be very important to the Company I believe it would have to be made public. RE: CC 8/13 @ 8:30 am - Palm - 08-08-2013 "During a quiet period, the Corporation will not initiate any meetings or telephone contacts with analysts and investors, but will respond to unsolicited inquiries concerning factual matters. If the Corporation is invited to participate, during a quiet period, in investment meetings or conferences organized by others, the Committee will determine, on a case-bycase basis, if it is advisable to accept these invitations. If accepted, extreme caution will be exercised to avoid selective disclosure of any material non-public information." Not as if they have no ability to talk about things, but I agree with Pet. Unless they make a public comment on earnings that subject is likely off limits even for "unsolicited inquiries", but they are still able to talk to analysts and investors. RE: CC 8/13 @ 8:30 am - ArtM72 - 08-08-2013 Palm - Is that a quote from the bylaws? If so, fine. I believe it to be correct that there is no "formal period" required by the SEC. It only exists as a policy of the corporation. Went through that ad nauseum on another BB a couple years back. In any event I'd suggest the company has been in a quiet period for the month prior to and ever since the AGM. I'm not sure that if O'Neill hadn't spilled the beans we would even know that IOC was negotiating with XOM. RE: CC 8/13 @ 8:30 am - Palm - 08-08-2013 Right from Page 7 as mentioned by Pet. |
