If this buyout rumor begins to gain traction you could see the pps start to take off....just bc HF's are increasing their shorts doesnt mean a buyout isnt coming. There were a lot of large well respected HF's shorting Nokia right before the Microsoft announcement

I talked to my O&G investor friend (professional).  His view now is that Exxon is probably bidding for the whole company and that's why exclusivity lapsed.  He said that if they went exclusive on buyout talks (not farm-in talks) they would have to PR it which was a problem, so no choice to let exclusivity lapse so they can have discussions on what it would take to buy the whole company.  He thinks obviously Shell got wind of this so it's getting VERY interesting.   I just wanted to pass that along.

In hindsight now it makes perfect sense.  Why pay $2 or $3 per million cubic foot when you can buy the whole IOC for say $2.50 plus all of the upside.

I am long and strong.  Thank you for this wonderful forum of knowledgeable people.

I couldn't agree more, arthurbell.

In fact, besides E/A and the other prospects, they might have another ace, here is Benzinga again:

Don Polye  (Deputy Prime Minister from PNG) just commented that   PNG locked into a CONSTITUTIONAL CONTRACT WITH INTEROIL - gives them 30 years tax free contract and govt has no recourse for min of 5 years --paving the way for a merger - Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon have been mentioned recently as suitors.

Furthermore, that does not even consider the benefits for Exxon of being in a much better position to take full advantage of the economies and higher returns of expanding PNG LNG from two trains to at least five to begin with, along with much more opportunity beyond that! Think that would help get their growth back on track?

Perhaps Dr Hession would like to destroy shorts with 12 million shares overnight, reap a quick big payday for him and all the others at IOC that have worked for so long, and end up in a senior position with Exxon or Shell related to PNG exploration and development.
