RE: Retirement of Phil Mulacek from Board of IOC - ArtM72 - 11-18-2013
I suspect that, if nothing else, no longer being on the board will allow Phil much more flexibility in the management of his shares. Also, as I recall, Phil's portfolio on the board was related to development of an LNG position for IOC. Yet another indicator that a major transition has taken place.

Why would he sell before share price reaching 200-300-400+ levels? That would be leaving hundreds of millions on the table. Is he going to create that kind of wealth with another venture?
Simple as Sparty making Braxton cry. Phil's a smart guy and he knows that his 'retirement' from IOC altogether will be used by shorts to beat the pps down. Could be he's already sold in the post CC run-up. Here we are holding the baggie still......sigh.
We will see if Braxton is crying. If so , I would guess tears if joy for another B10 championship! Stick to B-Ball Sparty!

I don't believe he could sell now since he is aware of inside information. He would have to wait for an announcement to avoid the wrath of the SEC. May be that board meeting just just aren''t any fun when you don't get along with any of the other directors. Better to pick up all your marbles and move on. After deal is announced, decisons will be made on what he sells.

Sorry to interject here.....but as a die-hard Spartan I'll just add that OSU should thank their lucky stars that they have a chance to play MSU instead of Nebraska. The reason being that MSU provides OSU some legitimacy in playing a team with not only a formidable Defense but one ranked highest in the country. A victory (if you would be so fortunate) would up their rankings in the BCS and possibly give them a shot at the National Title. As for your comment about sticking to Basketball.....come on man not a lot of colleges in the country that can boast the quality that MSU has sustained in each of football, hockey and in basketball. So save the pretention for someone less likely to be your match in the game ahead. Michigan learned the hard way ......"Pride Cometh Before the Fall". So try and PRETEND that you have a little class both (before and after) the anticipated Big Ten Title Game of which neither team has even yet qualified for yet technically. o'kay pumpkin'?

Phil is very smart. Way to many chips on the table to sell before a deal.
RE: Retirement of Phil Mulacek from Board of IOC - Palm - 11-19-2013
As expected the new rhetoric has begun on valuation; "current valuation likely has very good deals priced in." "Likely a sell the news event when deals are announced"........
No doubt part of MS's job in this is keeping management informed of both the old arguments and the new that will emerge. The way for Dr Mike to address this will be like he did last Tuesday; fully head on with real value in the deals. He won't be opaque IMHO. Shorts should learn from last week when they were surprised by the $250 million exploration loan and realize that Hession knows the game very well.

I agree. He is likely to be considered an insider for about six months. if so, he will still be subject to blackouts, and will likely need to sell through a 10B-51, or have General Council permission to sell. I also believe it is unlikely Phil will sell much of his shares. Maybe enough to fund new ventures. He is an entrepreneurer at heart. He is smart enough to be successful with other people's money! I also agree with an earlier comment. Assuming Phil is satisfied with where Hesson is taking the company, he will have more flexibiity with has shares, and other potential ventures, without being a board member of IOC. An large sharehoulder like Phil can wield a big stick -- maybe more so if he is not on the board. Overall, I see Phil leaving the board as a non-event. Also, remember that the first Exxon announcement came shortly after his resignation as the CEO. What announcement is next?

I'm sure you are not sorry to interject Dbag.... even though I wasn't talking to you pumpkin. Tree and I have a running dialog/joke about sparty and brutus and UM contests that are all in jest and good natured fun so your unsolicited bs is not appreciated. I am thanking my lucky stars and will be humble when Braxton takes your vaunted defense apart. Tree calls me Art Schlichter so I would be gald to accept your bet on the game if it happens. Maybe I should get points?

RE: Retirement of Phil Mulacek from Board of IOC - Palm - 11-19-2013
We're allowed to speculate here and I think most feel that Phil's retirement from the Board is another sign that the deals are done and Phil can say, "My work here is done." Makes sense as back when Phil retired as CEO it was stated by Byker that Phil would continue on as a member of the board and provide consulting services. Here's what Byker said in the PR:
"........ This is an unusual feat, seldom accomplished in any field. We are thankful for Phil’s many years of dedication and hard work, and pleased that he will advise the Company as we continue our very successful exploration program and work to finalize our LNG partnership arrangements with the PNG Government and an internationally-recognized LNG operator.”
So last week in the CC Dr Mike stated that they have secured the $250 million for the "successful exploration program" and that "any day" deals could be finalized and announced. If Phil retired effective Nov 14th (last Thursday) it likely does mean that his work is done and it's up to the attorneys to finish any details and the government to bless it. Phil can move on a wealthy man who really was a pioneer, and many people will have profited from what he did.
