RE: The Last Elephant in the Room - ltinvest - 12-11-2013
I was specifically answering a question about this week. A road show for deep pockets is a good investment of time. Now, in the bigger picture, I think the answer is "AND." Meaning that all the above should be considered. Managements job is to maximize shareholder value. Partnering with a SM, Drilling additional prospects, retaining a 30% stake in CSP & LNG, uncapped rewards for PRL 15 (growing & monetizing their resource).......are all things they need to be focused on executing. The market has also made it clear they need to focus on other ways to maximize shareholder value.....such as return of capital, acquisition, going private....whatever it takes.. It is their fiduciary responsibility.
RE: The Last Elephant in the Room - streamingeagle88 - 12-11-2013
Regrettably, and I am dead serious about this, the power of the shorts trumps the resource in this very corrupt financial environment. I don't see that ending, ever. The only way I see to bring them to account is for a buy out to occur. Good for shareholders. Good for the good vs. evil adherents. In this case selling the company is the right thing to do.

What we have here is a failed rollout and the short narrative of low gas if any, not as much if there is any it won't be more than 5.4T's for .77 cents, or .60 cents etc etc. This deal was supposed to be announced as 1.29 uncapped and was a massive failure. In time it will be a proven resource at the high end of the range, how high remains to be seen but I think we will all be pleased. The question becomes will you wait for it.

I waited three years for Friday's event. In all honesty, there's no reason to fefinitively conclude that any of those future positive catalysts will be received by the market any better than this deal was. I say...maximize shareholder value...now.
You're preaching to the choir yet I disagree that the market will not conclude differently, there will be a time when facts are facts, until that time the facts will be what the shorts side tells you they are thanks to a botched rollout. And shorts will bait the likes of admin and all others that want to argue with them because it gives them some sort of power and limelight to showcase their self-appointed mental acuity dominance over anyone that supports the IOC long thesis. Know this, no matter what happens next short of selling the company it will be disputed by shorts as an untruth while they are the untruths in the flesh. But it makes them lunch money every week for next 52 weeks on the backs of shareholders and IOC management. I can say it is hard to blame them since it is so easy to do. Heck, I would do it too if I could but that would require me to have the ethics of a sewer rat, no moral compass, no conscience, no soul and a blatant disregard for others, shareholders in general and the people of PNG in particular. I am just not wired that way and have no aspiration to change it.
Time will tell our story but for now shorty is running the clock. We can only hope for a surprise when least expected. Buyout, an unforseen announcement, name whatever you want. Until then the options are clear, hold or fold. I know what shorts are hoping happens.

The options are clear. Sell out-of-the-money puts with an eye to where the various culprits are likely to drive the price on a given Friday.

For the most part, I think the shorts' "arguments" are not the problem. They do it as a supplement to their "hammer" and it may have a very small effect (like JFT's pumping might somehow help a tiny bit) but their "hammer" is that they know they can run the price down anytime they want, with or without message board chatter. If the deal was well-received (by people beyond this board) we would have seen lots of new buyers, new coverage, etc. There would have been huge buying pressure that would have eliminatde (or at least offset) what the shorts did. As Bill Parcells said...maybe we are what are record says we are.
RE: The Last Elephant in the Room - jft310 - 12-11-2013
Read what Warren Buffett writes . Short term markets are irrational been proven many times . This is the stock market not a sporting event
Assuming you will never read Buffett the most successful investor on record measured over time he says buy a stock and shut down the market for 10 years and then look again. IOC is just that type stock.
He buys stocks with assets and IOC has lots of assets and they will get booked and waits. You should wait also and not buy calls or use margin.
Let me be direct this is the best time ever to buy IOC per the analysts IOC is derisked today . Total deal does that with an LNG plant.
Is it IOC 's fault we have High Frequency Trading . ?

CAC, It will take awhile for people beyond this board (and some people on the board) to understand the deal. And there are still a couple of shoes to drop. When all the info is in the public domain, and potential buyers have had the time to understand it, I expect the deal to be well-received.

You expect that based on what? I am not trying to be confrontational, and admittedly my comments are borne out of some frustration, but there are lots of very smart people out there looking for opportunities to make lots of money. At least so far, they aren't buying.
RE: The Last Elephant in the Room - tarulestheday - 12-11-2013
I have been long IOC since 2009. So the argument here is if you are not willing to buy and hold a grossly manipulated stock with no dividends until 2016-2018 to acheive reasonable valution, you are an impatient short term trader? Not sure that even Buffet holds that long and he doesn't hold IOC, that is for sure.

you hold the stock for the cash payments paid on certification which are at least 50 percent more than the current market cap and for the exploration potential which is large and unknown and for an LNG plant which advances the stock price with other LNG newbie by multiples of their current price . But alas some want more than multiples of the current price
