That had escaped my attention. RE: Sony contract - ArtM72 - 03-08-2014 So with this integration Shazam will have the track's prerelease fingerprint and will know about an unauthorized public release as soon as somebody asks Shazam what it is. More importantly to the label, Shazam will know immediately who was responsible for the pre-release license violation. That would seem a significant plus for DSNY. I have to say all this Big Brother technology is disturbing. In some ways I'd rather have the government follow me than corporations whose purposes are completely cloaked in secrecy. But for now so long as DSNY doesn't manufacture tobacco products it is a candidate for my investment dollar. The PR says that DSNY will provide digital fingerprints (which recognizes the music, author etc.) to Shazam, I'm really not sure this involves Shazam having access to (proprietary) data pertaining possible DRM violations. The purpose is clearly stated: ["The Shazam integration with Play MPEĀ® will benefit both consumers and record labels by increasing the likelihood of successful song identification closer to the release date. The recognition and availability of song information allows the consumer to learn more about an artist, leading to a positive impact on digital sales."] http://finance.yahoo.com/news/destiny-media-licenses-music-fingerprint-050100100.html As far as I know, Shazam isn't a DRM cop. |
