And trying to pick the exact high or low is impossible. Just buy gradually on the way down and skim some cash when there are some highs to have it ready. Palm- Good AM to you,TC,Trans,Syd and all ! Palm, maybe it is a combination of "fear and greed" (I'm not sure), but I just added a little more at 45.83. Yes, I know" my cup runeth over" ....'two boatloads'...but I guess we shall see.[ Maybe dumb.....maybe not] GLTYA RE: T/A Update - Gator - 10-15-2014 http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-10-14/the-11-trillion-advantage-that-shields-u-s-from-turmoil.html The $11 Trillion Advantage That Shields U.S. From Turmoil By Shobhana Chandra - Oct 14, 2014 Call it America’s $11 trillion advantage: Consumer spending is likely to steer the U.S. economy safely through the shoals of deteriorating global growth and turbulent financial markets. The combination of more jobs, falling gasoline prices and low borrowing costs will help lift household purchases. Such tailwinds probably matter more than Europe’s struggles or the slackening in emerging markets that caused the Dow Jones Industrial Average last week to erase its gains for the year. DAL, +5.57% shares are rallying on Tuesday to lead the S&P 500 as concerns about a global Ebola pandemic eased. Southwest, Delta shares rally as ebola fears ease - MarketWatch So I was wrong at least for now. I do have some trouble seeing much rationale though. Ebola looks far from under control, cases are doubling every three weeks or so and the end of that doesn't seem in sight. This has the potential to devastate parts of, or even whole societies and with that, people will start to move out in increasing numbers, unless we manage to contain the crisis at source. I'm not an expert here, but it seems a little soon to argue things are getting under control. RE: T/A Update - admin - 10-15-2014 Since it's all-time high on June 23rd, the sector has dropped more than 20%, putting it in bear market territory (along with oil). Below is a table showing stocks within the Energy sector that pay dividends. As shown, every single one is well below its 50-day moving average, with most 10-20% below. A stock that's 10% below its 50-day is pretty oversold, and it's like that across the board in Energy right now.

I can still remember how my hands kept trembling, even after the purchase, as the company kept falling all the way to bankruptcy. When I think back to that time, my hands sometimes start trembling again. RE: T/A Update - jft310 - 10-15-2014 Buffett states buy when there blood in the streets RE: T/A Update - Palm - 10-15-2014

You constantly take comments made about general markets back to O&G companies. Most of the comments here (mine for sure, pretty sure trans, Crooze and admin) are referring to overall market and diversification. When people say the market is correcting and its a good time to start laddering back in it doesn't mean IOC or even O&G needs to be the majority of that. May even be that little or none goes there. I know little of mine has been IOC; all full there so great opportunity to enhance the rest of the portfolio while IOC lags with rest of industry. I think you know this but it seems you constantly circle back to being fearful/trembling etc etc with IOC/O&G when you even think about buying. So don't even consider it if fears of another City Resources still haunt you. Plenty of other places to put your money and sleep well. You don't get enough sleep as it is (self admitted); forget these stocks, diversify in mutual funds and enjoy your cruises. And sleep well. RE: T/A Update - sydbod - 10-15-2014 Actually City Resources was a Gold Mining company. Most of my early losses were in the gold area. The reason I am making comments about O&G is because this is mainly an O&G forum, and I am being traumatised at the moment about what is happening in the O&G area. I believe many others are also. As of 1 hour before market closing, Santos (I had a big holding of them a few days ago) has dropped just for today by 2.5%. It was over 3% down a few hours ago. How much further is this trauma going to go for in the O&G area is just speculation by any of us, but we should not be applying general share trading rules to any share in this type of market. Just think of me as the exact opposite to jft. He is the eternal optimist, and I am the eternal pessimist. (jft, I am saying this in a nice way with no offence intended or implied) RE: T/A Update - jft310 - 10-15-2014 It doesn't help your portfolio value to get on a public forum and complain. Your written thoughts may cause others to pull the sell trigger . Causing your position to erode further. Not to say constructive comments aren't needed in a healthy discussion. RE: T/A Update - admin - 10-16-2014 Some pretty amazing swings out there, even the dollar is all over the place, wow. |
