Stabilizing? - admin - 10-31-2017

The stock is doing pretty well this morning, up 2.5% in the first half hour of trade, are we going to turn the corner on this one?

RE: Stabilizing? - Cann - 10-31-2017

A bit early for that, admin, this stock has a tendency to be rather volatile, both during the day and during the week, but I guess it is still helpful we're above $40 again. Next week will be crucial.

Here the self-updating graph, 15min delayed:

Stabilizing?? This could develop into a giant short-squeeze..

Not sure how likely that is though, the shorts seem to have a good handle on information, at the minimum about the demand situation from Amazon, but perhaps beyond that or even from within Applied Opto itself.

RE: Stabilizing? - admin - 10-31-2017

It could be worthwhile to look at the options market to look for clues, as we don't have visibility on recent short positions.

RE: Stabilizing? - admin - 10-31-2017

For instance there were 1000 and 1500 Nov 17 calls with strikes $60 and $65 traded today, but these went for pennies, it's hardly indicative and that's about it what we could spot in terms of large trades.

RE: Stabilizing? - baff - 11-09-2017

I think it's safe to say the stock finally stabilized.

RE: Stabilizing? - admin - 11-09-2017

Yes, looks like it, we're waiting for the CC transcript, apparently there was quite a bit about Amazon in there but they keep on winning new customers and expanding 100G business.

RE: Stabilizing? - baff - 11-09-2017

I look forward to the transcript. Even without Amazon the current price is very modest. Not that I believe that Amazon will go away totally and forever but the lower Q4 guidance took height for no Q4-sales whatsoever to Amazon. I assume the shares will continue to make gains but less dramatic so than pre-August peak.

RE: Stabilizing? - admin - 11-09-2017

Yes, we already know from Lumentum and Oclaro that there is a bit of a slowdown in the datacenter demand and this comes on top of the Amazon problem, so I guess that's the reason for the soft guidance, even without access to the CC.

The shorts predicted other losses (FB for instance), I was always fairly sure that was complete BS and now this is demonstrated, which is why the price is up.
