China & PNG - TxPm - 07-29-2012

With multiple confirmed SM's involved one thing I am surprised of is that so far no Chinese related firms have been mentioned. With Sinopec buying into Talisman's fields in the UK & CNOOC making headlines in Canada with their Nexen purchase I can't believe they aren't shopping for deals in their own backyard. They have already announced deals to help buildout PNG's infrastructure & let's be honest with ourselves china isn't building out infrastructure just to be nice they want access to PNG's natural resources and there aren't many better options than IOC (other than maybe Oil Search)

A pretty good question, as it happens.

TX, one thing to remember is that Shell is China's designated company to find and develop LNG outside of China. CNOOC and Sinopec are their NOCs that do same, but Shell has a big responsibility to bring things home for China. China's player in PNG is Shell.
