Profit - ArtM72 - 11-15-2012

The loss taken last quarter with the swing in crude oil price has been recovered.  Downstream remains profitable.

Net profit for the quarter ended September 30, 2012 was $5.3 million compared with a net loss of $19.8 million for the same period in 2011, an increase of $25.1 million. Operating segments of Corporate, Midstream Refining and Downstream collectively derived a net profit for the quarter of $16.8 million, while the investments in the development segments of Upstream and Midstream Liquefaction resulted in a net loss of $11.5 million during the quarter.

The improvement in net profit for the quarter was mainly due to a $29.4 million increase in gross margin attributable to the positive crude oil and refined product price movements during the quarter and higher margins from export cargos, among other items. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the quarter ended September 30, 2012 was a gain of $19.0 million versus a loss of $11.5 million for the same period in 2011.

The last for the quarter before was a drop in crude prices and an inventory write down.
