Extended Reach Drilling - petrengr1 - 01-30-2013
How far can your drill horizontally (extended reach) if you have the most powerful land rig in the world?
12,376 meters 40,605 feet Drilling time 60 days. Horizontal reach about 7.5 miles. http://www.exxonmobil.com/Corporate/Files/news_pub_lamp_2008-2.pdf How would you like to have that rig at Antelope? We could drill the whole field from one location. Can't get the other links to work but they have now drilled to 12,376 meters. RE: Extended Reach Drilling - sageo - 01-30-2013

RE: Extended Reach Drilling - johnwgrant - 01-30-2013 Anyone remember how far IOC drilled horizontally at ANT-2 with their current Rig (Rig #2 as they call it) ? John, check out slide 19 http://www.interoil.com/iocfiles/documents/investorrelations/presentationanddocuments/2010/2010-06-08_InterOil_InvPres_Final_.pdf RE: Extended Reach Drilling - Thylacine-2 - 01-30-2013 An advantage of a big powerful rig in PNG is that it would facilitate pad drilling. Like Pet said, it's a matter of "extended reach", how big an area we could reach out to, drilling directionally, and cover from one pad. It's not so much a matter of drilling long horizontal production legs. There will be tradeoffs between the costs of bringing in a big powerful rig to cover the maximum area from a single pad and the costs of going with a lesser rig, necessitating building more pads in PNG's difficult terrain. RE: Extended Reach Drilling - ArtM72 - 01-30-2013 I wonder whether there is a significant limited advantage to HDD where you have hydrocarbon columns that themselves are a couple thousand feet thick. No doubt in my mind HDD is terrific for thin seams of hydrocarbons, but where does the tradeoff occur? Lots of variables, not the least of which simply being just how much gas can one six or eight inch diameter pipe flow? If I were to guess, we can pad drill to the maximum effective distances in the E/A formation with our existing equipment as demonstrated at Antelope 2. Ditto with 3Tops. How many wells per pad? Don't have any idea. RE: Extended Reach Drilling - Thylacine-2 - 01-30-2013

Don't have any idea. Art, as I understand the situation, what you are saying might apply for horizontal production legs. In extending reach drillings to maximize the area covered from a single pad in rugged PNG terrain we wouldn't necessarily be trying to get long horizontal production legs. We would be deviating the wells from the vertical and reaching thousands of feet out to the sides long before we get down to the hydrocarbon bearing formation. In extended reach drilling, the reaching is done before you get down to the hydrocarbons. The farther out you can reach, the more wells you can put on a pad. It will be interesting to how pads are used at Triceratops. Isn't the terrain even more challenging there than at Elk/Ant?
RE: Extended Reach Drilling - jft310 - 01-30-2013 Talk of 7 wells at Triceratops. |
