Drilling rig available - maui4marko - 01-31-2013

Per our NGE neighbor who are half-owners of WDL:

DRILLING RIG

The drilling rig owned by Western Drilling Limited (WDL), a Company in which NGE holds a 50% interest with Maps Tuna Limited, is nearly complete.  During the quarter, the 74 man heliportable drilling camp arrived in PNG.  Work is underway to complete and test all remaining electrical and plumbing works and a robust Health, Safety and Environment System has been established.  The combined rig and camp will be ready for deployment shortly.

As part of ongoing discussions with third parties for leasing of the rig plus crew, WDL was invited to submit tenders to two operators during the quarter for upcoming drilling porgrams.

Any bets as to who the "two operators" are?  OSH & IOC immediately come to mind.  No worries about staffing a crew at least.

These people have more than one rig in PNG. They received another one in December 2011.

I think they drilled a couple of dry holes and the rig became available for lease. Maybe we can get one or the other to meet our commitments in PPL236 and PPL238. We could put Rig 2 at Tuna-1 and the leased rig at Wahoo-1.

I know IOC has had an interest in doing that and been working toward it for a while. Having two available now is a definite positive, and hopefully we will get at least one.

Last CC , I think it was CV might have been Dave H that stated they were negotiating for a rig and crew. That would be a third rig and PRE has committed to a rig and crew for Ticeratops this year. Thats 4 rigs drilling fall 2013. As I stated several months ago on this board.

NGE eyes more revenue from Western Drilling

Source:
The National, Tuesday November 5th, 2013

NEW Guinea Energy is set to get more revenue from its Western Drilling (WDL) joint venture, which has secured a contract for the use of its SL 7 heli rig and camp in Papua New Guinea.
WDL, an equal joint venture with Maps Tuna, had agreed terms for a single well that would see the rig deployed for about 150 days.
The contract included an option for a second well that could extend the contract by another 150 days.
Chief executive officer Grant Worner said: “In the current economic conditions, junior explorers are finding it difficult and expensive to access equity funding for their activities.
“The dividends that NGE would receive from WDL from this contract will be a welcome source of additional revenue in 2014.
“We are delighted that deployment of the drilling rig would provide jobs for the people of PNG, while supporting the growth of the oil and gas industry within the country.”

If IOC has rented this rig then they would have two rigs available for PRL 15 delineation wells with Exxon. This firms up the PRL estimates quicker that way. Why do it?? It firms up cash flow for Interoil in a payment for NG in the PRL and also firms up capacity size for a Gulf LNG project. Of course Exxon could be a Strategic Exploratioin Partner in several PRL's as Tusker has suggested and one needs to think bigger. Down right exciting

Wouldn't you think we would have heard by now who rented this rig by now if it was IOC or "affiliate"? And if it is IOC just why would Worner have made a comment like that? Maybe you can ask why Worner would make such a comment anyway?
