That was as of Feb 28th and with the recent manipulation bet the number is 13K. Yep, lucky number 13 for the shorts....oh wait, 13 isn't the lucky number. Good luck shorties!!!!!!!!!!

RE: $1 Billion short bet on InterOil - Palm - 03-12-2013

And as of last week there were reports that there a basically no shares out there to short. So, what can they do? Find more desperate stories to try and post like personal attacks on BODs, trying to goad Duma into saying IOC has been booted, digging deep to find proof that OSH won't be buying IOC, etc. Then they use intraday shorting to try and cause some panic (because there are no shares to borrow). But it's not working. The stock is in the strongest hands ever as the SD process moves ahead. I think IOC has a couple if conferences it does yet in March and April, then Elk needs to be popped, an update on SD would be appropriate. Plenty of things to keep the pump primed for the SD announcement. And the markets are flying high. Risk is on.

I worry when the shorts have this much at stake... They are not known to play nice when they are cornered.

Please, Please, Please: InterOil - when you make your partner announcement, do not leave ambiguities that will open the door for the shorts to claim that this is a "bad deal" !!!

John, you're right in noticing that they don't play nice (I have ample experience with that as well) but this is the last thing I would worry about. History has shown that they change arguments faster than Imelda Marcos changed shoes, and this time will be no different. Rather than "conviction" shorts as Bonk called them, they're utter opportunists, time and time again, when one argument has been blown out of the water by facts and/or developments, they effortlessly shift onto the next "argument," even where that contradicts previous ones

I really don't think they can fool anyone with that anymore.

In fact, Bonk himself came up with the most hilarious one of them all, trying to shift all the ludicrous arguments that have been the work of the Tilson gang, but the serious shorters stay quiet and therefore must have some "hidden" ace argument.

So good that it cannot be made public, (despite all the efforts with paid bashers, hired ex-cons, planted newspaper stories, etc. etc.), this is basically an admission they have no clothes.

What they do have is fire power, but with 13m shares short, they must be running out of bullets and soon there will be a new sherriff in town, with a new broom.

Regarding the high short position, I have 2 questions:
- How does IOC rank on the shortlist?
- Are their hedge funds who take advantage of large shortpositions by opening large call positions?

RE: $1 Billion short bet on InterOil - Gator - 03-13-2013

According to the WSJ, InterOil is 11 on the NYSE as a % of float short.
