Riding in to the sunset: InterOil chief executive Phil Mulacek is set to retire at the end of the month

Phil Mulacek, the founder and chief executive of Papua New Guinea-focused InterOil, has retired effective from 30 April.

The company said a global search is under way for a new chief executive, and InterOil chairman Gaylen Byker will assume Mulacek 's duties on an interim basis from 1 May.

Mulacek will continue as an InterOil director and will provide advisory services to the company.

InterOil said: "We are thankful for Phil's many years of dedication and hard work, and pleased that he will advise the company as we continue our very successful exploration program and work to finalise our LNG partnership arrangements with the PNG government and an internationally-recognised LNG operator."
