Good Support in the $73-74 Range - tarulestheday - 05-29-2013

I have never been happier to have hedged my entire position for July. Hopefully I will not have to hedge for August or Sept. Buckle up IOC fans.

Congrats, Tarules. I have a feeling a lot of people could learn from your trading acumen.

I cleared out my June options this morning around $85, and have been adding Jan. 2015 Call options. (I do half stock, half call options) I had picked the June $85's up back when we were trading in the $60's so overall I made $, but IOC certainly teaches one to have to maintain discipline due to heavy manipulation.  If it were to get to the low-mid-70's, I'll be doubling my overall position.  "It's not just a stock, it's an adventure!"

You had a point if you argue these things are mutually exclusive. Long term trend is still intact and the stuff that's behind that trend. However, as long as there isn't an iron clad deal that the market can value exactly, this stock will remain prone to these bouts of volatility. However unfortunate it might be, it's simply a fact of life. One can either scream and shout about it, or position himself in order to minimize the damage or even profit. I think the latter is more productive.

Frustrated , yes and I believe we all are however the fact is things could certainly have been handled much better. Even though there was a central managament change (aka. Phil) sad to see management still can not get off their own feet. I am still long but still get frustrated with the bush league way this team does not get out in front but instead tries to catch up to the market. I feel in the end we are all pawns to the market AND to IOC. No different that the little fish that eats the parasites off the back of larger fish. With one swat of the tail they could be gone also. To see so many "longs" say they are selling out positions is not concerning but does show their inability to assess this companies timing as well. In the end, I believe longs will benefit, when is the question. Time will tell.....

We get the Exxon announcement and must were stunned at the drop that day. Then all weekend everybody says it is a market over reaction and on this site multiple reasons and comments by Exxon would lead you to believe a good chance of a rebound ( up 2 bucks at the open).  So in those two days I am supposed to come to the realization that this is a good time to hedge my bet.  Maybe I need to borrow some psychic abilities from you guys, I am just a crap long.  Then after this cluster PR, people have to say how smart they are about hedging, getting out of there calls, yada yada yada. Only $4 from good support, we will see how that goes tomorrow.

Hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it?

There are dozens of questions I have that have still yet to be answered. I am just as frustrated as everyone else and as the original crap long I can attest to what Eller is saying.

Perhaps if posters would comment on strategies beforehand and not after the fact than others would be aware. I believe Tarules did this recently when he expressed hesitation with what the market and charts were telling him. He was questioned by some on this board but appears that he made the right call.

I do not get in the games of trading, not sure what puts or calls are, I have never bought them and wouldn't know where to start. All I want is for IOC to make a deal that is in the best interest of shareholders. I've waited 18 months for this and it appears that I will have to wait another two months. I really hope its sooner but I can't remember any date or timeline IOC has put forth that they were early on.  The recent executive turnover is also a bit concerning, and the fact that we will have to wait until whatever XOM does not buy to go forward with our own LNG project also hurts. As I said there are a lot of questions very little of which have been answered.

I'm hoping these are addressed in the upcoming days or weeks.

If the best deal was to sell natural gas to XOM then we should have really done this two years ago to save ourselves all these headaches.

RE: Good Support in the $73-74 Range - tarulestheday - 05-29-2013

FWIW (not much actually) I more than telegraphed my disappointment with the price and the recent XOM release both here and on Yazoo. I received many negative PMs over this. To be exact, I hedged my position on Friday when the stock was down less than 4% but the reversal trend looked very ugly.

I think this is actually very simple to explain - Longs have been very patiently waiting for A DEAL. What they got was yet another delay. I also continue to believe that the company needs to be sold to achieve proper valuation. If you don't think some of the bigs are also of this opinion, I would just tell you that you are DEAD WRONG.
