Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again - Palm - 07-06-2013

Per the Schwab Share Lending Program desk shorts are again wanting to borrow shares to short IOC. They must be expecting news to come in the near term.

Frankly I luv the idea of shorts now shorting more. Reminds me of Eric shorting more IOC when it dropped below $10. He had to brag about what he did.
Why I am so confident.
IOC will name its new CEO soon maybe next week
IOC has a deal with Exxon for their third train that includes LNG participation.Source TWO IOC Senior execs.Further negotiations on for the 4th train with IOC . IOC will have to chose an Exxon 4th train or another LNG partner deal.

To my knowledge, Eric sells OTM calls from time to time, I don't recall him ever being short. In any case, we don't know because we can't look into his account, whatever he (or you) says. It isn't terribly important either. All sorts of people do all sorts of things..

RE: Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again - jft310 - 07-06-2013

STP-Mr Market has more than one way to be short . One is to short the shares , another to buy puts and another the sell calls. When one states short they can mean one or all of the above. Sure Eric sells calls and that's a bet against IOC rising to much. He was wrong when IOC was below $10 .The point is shorting more IOC after this drop is a fools bet.

RE: Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again - admin - 07-06-2013

JFT, my point is another one.

  • You didn't provide any link to him arguing he was short
  • He cannot defend himself here

Even as the same Eric has ascribed many things to me  without providing links or quotes, I don't want that behavior here on this forum, that's a matter of principle. Apart from that, it's not controllable (we don't have access to his trading record) and it's hardly relevant.

And yes, I don't think shorting here is particularly clever, needless to say, although selling calls is another matter (especially if one is covered).

STP-How can you ignore Yahoo and Eric's posts.???Every yahoo post states STRONG SELL. You can ignore that but others will not.. I luv it when an Economics professor tells Wall Street how to short. Selling Naked calls is a short position STP. It's but 3 ways for one to short a stock is my point you ignore. Not sure call your broker.

RE: Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again - admin - 07-06-2013

No, I'm not arguing with any brokers. What I'm arguing is:

  1. It doesn't matter what some individual investor does, even less what he says about it (as we can't control whether what he or she says corresponds what he or she does with their IOC position, or any other position)
  2. While it might be fashionable to ascribe stuff to people without links and quotes on other fora, I don't appreciate that here, especially when people can't defend themselves. If I tolerate that it can quickly become a free for all where we ascribe anything to anybody without any burden of proof or possibility of redress. We went from Yahoo for a reason.

I hope that helps.

RE: Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again - jft310 - 07-06-2013

You ignore the obvious and why? One can bet short or long on Wall Street. When one sells naked calls on a stock that's a short position (no long stock to offset)and is described as being short. That's what I said. You added he didn't sell stock short. I didn't say that STP that was your words. So added your selective definition one of three ways to be short and want me to agree with that nonsense. Not gonna happen. Your wrong period. Can you admit when you are wrong.??

RE: Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again - admin - 07-06-2013

No, I want you to agree with, and abide by, the following two points, the second more especially. For good measure, I'll repeat them because you don't seem to be able to grasp these:

RE: Per Schwab's security lending desk shorts borrowing again - jft310 - 07-06-2013

One has to ask why you wanted Bonk to join SHU?? Thats why we left Yahoo to get away from nonsense. And you wanted to bring it here.
Not what most want STP. That blows away your statement two above.WHY STP???
Just admit you don't understand the term short. If you did you would realize what you are saying is nonsense. Ask anyone who has passed the series 7 test how do you short a stock??? Appears the answer would surprise you. Not good STP .
