Isn't PNG LNG operator thinking about expansion trains???

Yes and in a video press conference where he discussed his trip he said he was going to look at the project because it's very important for PNG and Australia has considerable equity in the project. In other words, "We need to see what the plans are in case we have to pony up more equity."

Oil Search and Santos own 51.8% of the PNG LNG project.  Aussies have project clout and political clout as PNG's largest foreign donor.  How many billions in revenues for these AU Co's rides on PNG LNG and the coming expansion trains?  OSH/Santos LNG investments in PNG will not end with PNG LNG.

But beyond those companies the Aussie government loaned (export credit loan) $350 million for the project. Watchdog group Jubilee Australia has been yanking the government's chain to be sure the project is being socially responsible etc. I think Rudd is doing a bit of politicking to appease that group and also watching out for Santos and OSH.

Yes  Rudd most certainly discussing Aussie role in the development of PNG's conventional energy plays as AU CSG project fall by the woodside.

looks like you shaved.  hohoho

I am not so sure that Rudd is all that concerned about OSH since OSH is not an Australian company ...... now Santos may be another story as it is Australian.

From memory Santos has 13.5% and OSH has 29% making them 42.5% combined, so a slight slip-up there Tree Smile

You are right sydbod.  I pulled Wikipedia #s (not the best source)  OSH @34.1% and Santos @ 17.7% PNG LNG ownership.  OSH as AU I pulled from my axx.  I knew better.  Still some investment politicking going on with Rudd/O'Neil discussing PNG LNG.  OSH has been mentioned as a Santos acquisition and PNG Gov't is large stakeholder in OSH.

Yes, but one wonders what the true motivation is behind that.

I sometimes think (nothing to actually back this up) it is purely financial, in that Australia is looking as if it will trend towards a recession or close to it in the next year or so, and Rudd is just giving O'Neal a heads-up that financial help from Australia may be decreasing in the very near future.

I better start my veg-patch soon if I want to eat. Smile
