I so like 'competetive tension' - Tree - 11-14-2013

Hession 11/12/13:

"...it is public knowledge that we are being approached, and people are making offers to get into this gas province and get into this exploration province.......There's a scenario that if we do a deal with a particular mega major, and then we build a facility with that major, then it may be better to be aligned along the value chain with that particular major, and that's something we are considering."

Apparently that 'competetive tension' is yielding some mega offers from mega-majors.

Why does chart 19 from the latest presentation show an EWC/LNG facility???

RE: I so like 'competetive tension' - Palm - 11-14-2013

Largest discovery in Asia in 20 years. Oh, that's just EA as it's now known. And likely Hession's analysts have done some winking to others in the industry. And there's likely much more in the other prospects. What super-mega-gargantuan major wouldn't want to "go all the way" with IOC? Companies like Exxon don't just take a sliver of the pie. It's just getting them to pay the fair price. So you do what Dr Mike has done; welcome the other super-mega-gargantuan majors to your table to be sure we not only define "soon", but "fair". Sounds like since August the progress has been pretty amazing.

Even the shortest shorts say, "I didn't expect........" Dr Mike to get it done. They think it was more fun when Phil was around. Not so fun now.

InterOil suitors line up for a $US6bn-plus PNG deal

InterOil is expected to land one of the world’s biggest energy companies as a co-investor in its Papua New Guinea gas project in a deal that could be worth over $US6 billion ($6.4 billion).
Expectations of an imminent transaction on its Elk and Antelope fields in PNG could have major implications for Oil Search, an Australian-listed oil and gas producer.
InterOil’s chief suitor has always been Exxon Mobil, the world’s biggest oil company by market value, and Oil Search’s majority partner in PNG’s $19 billion liquified natural gas project, known as PNG LNG. Santos also has a stake in the venture which is due to come on line within six months. But in order to meet a two-train, or dual-track production target, the PNG LNG stakeholders need fresh gas supplies.
Little wonder then that InterOil is sitting pretty. Its Elk and Antelope fields represent the two largest gas finds in south-east Asia in the past two decades and the company, headed by former Woodside boss Michael Hession, has hinted those finds may be the tip of the iceberg in this hydrocarbon-rich terrain. Hession has been credited with reviving InterOil’s fortunes since he joined in July after the company became bogged down in debt under the previous regime.
But its future rests on the sell-down or monetisation of Elk and Antelope which could top $US6 billion, although the precise amount remains unclear as InterOil intends to retain a significant equity stake.
Exxon is still viewed as the most likely partner for a joint venture despite the lapse of an exclusivity arrangement earlier this year. Even if one of Exxon’s rivals out-bid the Texan giant, the company could launch a takeover for InterOil, prior to the conclusion of its licences from the PNG government.
The PNG LNG project, which is likely to add a third train, is expected to pump cash over the next few years, with analysts anticipating a surge in Oil Search and Santos’ value throughout 2014.
Renewed focus on InterOil’s fields come as Woodside Petroleum faces the possibility of scaling back its 30 per cent slice of Israel’s offshore gas project, Leviathan. If the Australian oil and gas giant fails to snare its $US2.3 billion share of that project, many in the sector believe it will soon turn its attention to fresh growth opportunities. Some argue Oil Search may become a target, although the government’s stake in the company has always been a deterrent.
Elsewhere, Rob Thomson, RBC’s head of equity capital markets, has left the firm alongside Leigh Gardner, who replaced Peter Main as head of equity sales in August.

Might I add for the sake of it, once IOC is accepted and proven to the street, take a look at NGE which has rights to land abutting IOC.

Good eye JFT.  Also, what about "CSP5" in the lower middle of EA on chart 20?  Does CSP5 indicate Condensate Stripping Plant #5?  What say you Pet?!?

Good point Plam, I'm sure those tpyos could've been prevented if IOC would just hire some good staff...

Dr  Mike has streamlined things, just hasn't hired a new PP technician yet.

I honed in on that quote too but didn't fully understand what he meant  If you recall the context...he seemed to hesitate before he spoke. It seemed to me to be the only time he was "speaking off the cuff" in an otherwise planned and practiced presentation. Does this refer to a potential buyout? I'm not sure what was meant by being "aligned along the value chain with that major". Anybody familiar with that specific parlance?
