XOM or RDS buyout - ltinvest - 12-07-2013

I must ask myself why Exxon or Shell would not come in and pounce on IOC right now.  Hell, a low ball $100 offer could gain some traction.  Knowing what Exxon has said about the IRR on trains #3 and beyond......AND everyones apparent excitement over this Elephant prosppect on top of E/A certified resource......why in the world would Exxon not come in and try to buy Interoil?  I would!

I bet the large shareholders that JFT surveyed, who apparently were "against a buyout at this time" (I had thrown out a hypothetical figure of $150), might not be looking at it the same way after today.  I can't say that 'm looking forward to waiting three more years to see if the Triceratops monetization announcement cuts an additional 35% off the market cap...like the E/A announcement just did.  What exactly is expected to increase pps so substantially that a $150 buyout seemed repugnant?  I think TARules speaks the truth when he says that a buyout is the only way to get fair value.

Almost 10 million shares sold today under $60. It would not be difficult at all at these prices to mount a hostile takeover IMO. Anyone like to buyout IOC for around 2.6 B? I know XOM and RDS probably would.

But my sources still say that both XOM and TOT are involved here.

You are probably right.  Did you see Palms post highlighting that TOT and IOC can sell down an additional 19.3% to a strategic partner prior to Govt buy in.  Interesting to say the least.  GTSDDN (get the second deal done now!)  Maybe XOM is as excited by the seismics on the new elephand as well.  19.3% of 20 Ts plus a little help from the govt might get them a train.

RE: XOM or RDS buyout - ArtM72 - 12-07-2013

The only way to get fair value it seems is to recognize IOC has the money to drill and has the resource to build an LNG plant. Hold and it will come.

While I don't know anything, my bet is that computer algorithms took over and sold out just about everything they controlled. Certainly the present value of the TOT contract alone exceeds the market value of IOC as we sit here tonight. Absolutely nonsense.

TA.....I don't know if you saw it in another thread but I commend you on the information you shared being right on as far as Total's involvement.  I was very disappointed in my source suggesting XOM was involved.  However, when you put your reliable information together with the "strategic partner" comment along with Hession saying there would be another cc in the near future......maybe theres more to this.

RE: XOM or RDS buyout - SamAdams - 12-07-2013

I also wondered why MH rushed back to Sngapore on the morning of the announcement. He did well but didn't he sound a bit rushed? After today, wouldn't you be doing all you could this weekend to crank something out positive on Monday - a thought, but perhaps just hope and most likely a prayer.

Thanks lt but I really don't know how reliable that info really is. And I know from working in PR myself that THINGS CHANGE. Another deal with XOM would be very interesting and might move the timetables up which would be very good for the share price.

Maybe Dr. Mike learned a thing or two regarding coordination of a joint partnership press release today. They should have done a joint release IMHO.

RE: XOM or RDS buyout - SamAdams - 12-07-2013

I think he trusted someone on this and it won't happen again. I don't think he's a guy you disappoint twice. Unless they are working a second deal this should have been better planned from a PR point of view.

RE: XOM or RDS buyout - Palm - 12-07-2013

So how does this all start to make some sense? IOC can only speak for IOC. Any sell-down that Total will do is it's business and likely something on their ledger. I will also say there have been rumors of a CSP going in very quickly. Starting to make some sense. Gives the "strategic partner" time to get some things in order and gets IOC its deal needed to satisfy Duma and preserve its licenses. Duma was holding the PRL39 approval "hostage" until they got an acceptable deal in place.

So now, what is Total working on?

And as Lt stated on another thread:
"I'm reflecting on Hessions comment "We’ll be back on another conference call I’m sure in the not too distant future."

Why is Hession so "sure"? He's not one to make statements like this without expecting to back them up. And they are too excited about what's going on; probably because they know more is to come "in the not too distant future".
