With lots of natural gas available in areas like Gulf and Western provinces (not to mention Port Moresby) it isn't much of a stretch to see a future for PNG use of natural gas to fuel a large part of their economy, including transportation. Here's a link showing early efforts in Indonesia which is starting down that path.
