PNG LNG Partners Going Deep - Tree - 10-02-2014

The ExxonMobil-led owners of the Papua New Guinea liquefied natural gas project are about to spud a much-anticipated gas exploration well into a deeper reservoir target.

The Hides F1 well, previously known as Hides Deep, is designed both as a production well and an exploration well that will penetrate a deeper target directly below the existing Hides field.

According to project co-owners Oil Search and Santos, the well has significant resource potential, and the Nabors-owned drilling rig 703 is mobilising to the location to drill the prospect.

Oil Search explained recently that the deep well is to be drilled from existing Wellpad F, and will penetrate the Koi-Iange reservoir, which is mapped as being 700 metres below the standard Toro-Digimu reservoirs.

“The Koi-lange reservoir is one that hasn’t been penetrated before at the Hides field,” said Julian Fowles, Oil Search’s executive general manager for exploration.

“We see significant potential there for expansion of the resource base that we have at Hides itself.”

The Hides field is a multi-trillion cubic foot gas field that is the principal feedstock for the two LNG trains.

Oil Search said Hides development drilling is nearly complete. The eighth production well has hit the Toro-Digimu reservoir and has been completed as a producer.

The produced water disposal well has also reached total depth and has been completed as a water injection well.

Oil Search said results were largely as expected, and all the wells showed good pressure communication.

The new structural, log and pressure data from all the wells will be used to help further define the Hides gas resources and distribution when the analysis is completed next year.

Another Nabors rig, Rig 702, is about to drill two more production wells on the Angore field, which is also a LNG feedstock source.

The PNG LNG project currently has proven and probable reserves of nearly 8 trillion cubic feet of gas spread across the Hides, Kutubu, Moran, Gobe, SE Hedinia, Angore and Juha fields.

In addition, there is nearly 800 billion cubic feet of contingent gas resources.

The contingent resource excludes the P’nyang, Juha North, Kimu, Uramu, Barikewa, Iehi and Cobra discoveries, accordingto Oil Search.

P’nyang is the discovery which the PNG LNG project partners hope will be the resource that underpins a third-train expansion. Juha North is understood to be another expansion candidate.

Concept selection work is well advanced on P’nyang and the partners plan to submit to the PNG authorities an application for a development licence in early 2015.

At Juha North, gas has been proven up, and Oil Search said it believes there is large potential upside, but appraisal work is necessary.

A batch of seismic data was acquired in the second quarter of 2014, and a second phase is planned to begin in the coming months.

Cost of gas from any of these discoveries is quite high. The gas if found must be piped up a Mountain range and then piped back down.

But it keeps the existing partnership in place and fills the existing pipeline. Slow drilling of IOC's prospects let's PNG LNG partners find train 3 gas and the Petroleum Minister prevails.

Let's not forget the latest Interoil Press Release which states at Raptor on top of the limestone or reservoir rock , ready to set liner and drill ahead. Huge difference with a Hides exploration well to still be drilled and unknown finds . At Raptor we have reservoir rock . Now how much ?. Please see the Press Release re Antelope for a clue?? Apples and Oranges defined.

More important Dave Holland per the last call is in charge of daily drilling . He has a huge success history. The Australians have backed off daily drilling. Who knows Why????hoho

I bet they drill Hides and have results before IOC has anything definitive on Raptor. Exxon is drilling Hides and knows what they are dealing with.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I just sold half of my OSH shares and all of my STO shares last Friday.
Maybe time to wait another week or two and see if oil/gas prices stabilise, and then buy back into those shares ?

That bet is on. Let's see.

Palm, you are probably correct there. They only have to extend the current well by 700m to get to Hides Deep from the current Hides deposit.

I don't know how long it will take them to set up the drilling rig back on the old prepared site, but the actually drilling part will only take 2 to 4 weeks to complete.

Tru dat duck. We wait.  Patiently.

Hides is lowest cost and simplest option PNG LNG currently has for expansion.

Hides is already part of PNG LNG Project Agreement.  Quick/easy route to expansion if enough gas is found.

Isolated P'Nyang is not part of PNG LNG Project Agreement, Highlands wells can run $100,000,000 each as they in the 'Most Expensive Onshore Wells Club' in the world.

Incorporating either P'Nyang or IOC gas into PNG LNG is possible and aligning OSH, Santos, Japan PNG Petroleum and PNG Gov't will minimally be time consuming even for XOM.  Options include revising the project unitisation agreement with XOM upping their stake, extending existing project unitisation agreement to cover P'Nyang/IOC gas or reaching a tolling agreement   where XOM pays fee to partners for liquefaction through PNG LNG facilities.

XOM wants 2 train expansion for construction economies, IOC has 2 train PA with PNG Gov't.

IOC's recert or success in the current 3 exploration wells unlocks both projects.  2015 anyone?

RE: PNG LNG Partners Going Deep - Palm - 10-03-2014

Won't take long to start drilling as pad is ready. And by definitive I mean how quickly it will be on books as at least a resource. IOC will have one well drilled (maybe), then if they choose to have CG or someone do their analysis it will be sometime in 2Q 2015 IMO. For the ASX companies like OSH have their internal specialists do the analysis and are allowed to show a resource amount based on their "expert" opinion. Big difference.
