Articles says IOC and OSH have held informal merger talks with Hession to take over for Botten as CEO once he retires.

Hope they do it. This was something I suggested 1 1/2 years ago.

I can say wow and what the heck happens if this occurs to my little stake.

Palm- Good day. Wondering a bit more about such a move....if a merger were considered seriouusly, what would the outcome look like ? Would OSH put in five shares for every one share of IOC ? Would a new name be sought,or would one of the current names be used .Sorry I missed your original thinking on this possibility a year or so ago. Your thoughts if you don't mind sharing them . Thanks

Would OSH put in five shares for every one share of IOC?

I certainly hope not.  OSH closed $7.52 AUD.  5 shares = $37.60 AUD but only $27.31 USD.  I doubt anyone would be willing to take an additional 22% haircut on a deal.

From the article

Oil Search is understood to have opened informal discussions that could result in its once unwelcoming joint venture partner being contentedly consumed as a poison pill ****should Woodside Petroleum return ***for a second bite at Papua New Guinea's liquid natural gas cherry.

Thanks, Gator ! I can see now that while I was majoring in Geology, that math should have been my minor instead of Chemistry . Ho,ho. <img src=" border="0" class="smilie" src="http://shareholdersunite.com/mybb/images/smilies/wink.gif" /> Appreciate your shedding more light on the equation .

This one refer to "government sources" with respect to the talks.
