CAC,

The dismantling of Petromin isn't/wasn't something that has been recently concocted in the past 2 months.  It has been something likely brewing since O'Neill was relected in August.  Indeed our own Palmstradamus picked up on this way back in November.  Now, if Palm figured this out, I am fairly certain that IOC, internal government officials, and any bidders were informed straight from the horses mouth sometime last year.

Now this would likely raise some questions by IOC and any bidding parties.  Questions and concerns that would require very strong written assurances from people at or near the top (O'Neill).  In fact, it is inconcievable to me that written assurances were not completed long before any notification about disbanding of Petromin.  This would mean that each and every bidder currenlty have legal binding documentation in the vaults guaranteeing quick legal addition to the PRL/PDL 15 regardless of the state of the national oil company.

So, with written assurances of acceptance in place, my question to you is: how does any bidder care about the disbanding of Petromin to the extent that it affects bid timelines?  In fact why would IOC/IB's set bidding deadlines back in January if this was a concern at that time?

Bert and you are entitled to your opinions, but it is impossible for me to accept that multibillion dollar SMs/NoC/Utilities did not have the foresight to handle this many months ago.

efi --  That all makes sense.  I hope you are correct and think that you might be.  It is certainly a logical assumption that certain assuranances may have been given to IOC and the bidders, but since neither IOC nor PNG has specifically stated such, it remians an "assumption" all the same.  Maybe that written assurance was sufficient to get a bidder to make a "contingent" final bid.  But a bid contingent on a future event is obviously not binding until the future event occurs...so wouldn't that still mean we have no real deal until the contingency is met?  I think that's the type of question that Bert was fairly asking.  I don't assume that a SM is going to just "trust" a verbal assurance (or even a written assurance from O'Neil who may or may not have the constitutional authority to bind PNG in this instance) instead of requiring proper legal i's to be dotted first.  Even O'Neil has said that this transformation will require legislation, so, yes, I consider it a significant governmental restructuring.

I don't see that it would violate the confidentiality agreements for IOC to clear-up this issue by giving a vanilla statement to the effect of..."The bid process and negotiations are continuing and we do not believe that the transtion from Petromin to its successor entity will affect timing in any way or otherwise delay our process."

All hands on deck! The rumors hitting the mainstream press. I've already gotten multiple contacts this morning pointing to the Shell rumor. Looks like we are up big in pre-market!

If this article about Shell is true, I have to chuckle a bit.  For all the predictions, this would be out of the blue just like the Pre deal when it came out.  Nobody knew then and nobody knew now.

I agree all the talks of JKM & Exxon and then this. What we do know though is that Shell desperately wants access to PNG. They already missed out when they left the first time I don't expect they want it to happen again...

As our former President said. "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice....well you can't get fooled again."

It is with heavy heart that I too will question authority and ask for the ban stick. Wow what has SHU become? I joined for the knowledge of the group, there are some powerful posters here. I have been with IOC since less than $2, Yahoo IOC MB since day one of its existence, SHU for a long while. I don't post, I hear no rumors, I have no insider info to add, I am not a petro engineer, so I realize my leaving here will not leave a void here, other than a fact you lose fellow long time believer. I believe very much in the IOC story and have come to enjoy the bitter sweet taste of its cool aid. I don't believe questioning management is out of line.Phil has brought us a long way, we are not over the hill yet, but I believe I see the crest, no doubt in my mind we will be VERY grateful in thenot to distant future. Mistakes have been made along the way, it is not wrong to question, it is not wrong to have a different view as long as everyone is shown respect. I cannot see the respect flow in all directions here. I guess my invite to Cairnes has been nullified.

Hey Hose,

People are automatically assuming that Bert was banned due to his opinion in this post or other posts on this forum.  This could not be farther from the truth.

There was a very specific situation where Bert was involved, one that I will not divulge in order to protect his identity.  If he chooses he can use the Yahoo forum to explain his side of the story and if he does then I will explain SHU's side of the story.  If someone sees him post on the zoo on this topic please PM me as it is difficult to sift through all the noise over there.

Additonally, I must remind people that this site costs hundreds of dollars and many many hours to operate, manage and maintain.  This affords the owners of the website certain privileges (and some burdens) with which they need to make decisions as best they see fit.  Unfortunately, this means that we cannot please everyone, especially as this community grows and opinions become more and more diverse.

Thanx for caring enough to share your opinion,
efi

As members, don't we have the right to know why another member has been banned?

Which raises the question, just what are our rights as members?  Should we be afraid to post for fear of being "banned"?

Hi Kommonsents,

Regarding your first question:  When the incident involves the identity of individual banned, unfortunately we cannot share details of the situation.  Privacy/Security is very important to SHU and it trumps any other right.  As in my previous post, if Bert decides to share this information on Yahoo, I will respond.  It is important to repeat though: Bert was NOT banned for his opinions in any post.

Regarding your second question:  Your rights as a member is to use this forum as you choose as long as you can stick to the rules identified here as best you can.  I will admit that there are times rules are broken, just as long as they aren't repeatedly abused.  I can assure you that no one will ever be banned for posting their opinion, positive, negative or neutral.  Indeed, this site is worthless without a healthy number of members in the community, so thank you for being a part of SHU.

To put it a different way, in a football game, players have been ejected from a game or suspended for many games.  Does this stop the other players on the team from continuing to play hard or with intensity?  SHU just had a game suspension, we expect the rest of the members will continue to play like they were before.

Thank you for taking the time,
Efi
