Another one bites the dust. Gulf Province MP Mark Maipakai has been suspended for misappropriation of funds that were supposed to go to infrastructure projects, but no projects have ever been done. Bonny Kapau, a concerned chief from Baina village in Kikori mentions the PNG LNG project and "the second" LNG project being done by Interoil as potential huge providers of funds for projects, but people like Markus have to go.

THE outback people of Kikori in the Gulf Province have welcomed the suspension and investigation into the allegation of misappropriation of public funds by their MP Mark Maipakai.
Bonny Kapau, a concerned chief from Baina village in Kikori, said for the last 10 years with Mr Maipakai at the helm, there was nothing tangible to show for the district.
“The suspension and investigation is welcome news for the people of Kikori,” Mr Kapau speaking from Kikori, said yesterday.
“In his two terms as MP for Kikori, he has done nothing. We want to tell the investigation or inquiry team what he has done with the public funds especially the District Improvement Services Program (DSIP) funds during his term. There is literally nothing on the ground to show an existence of an elected leader for the electorate,” Mr Kapau said.
He stressed that there were no road links, no health services, no police and no clean water projects as he promised during the campaign in 2002 and 2007.
“We are people of the impact projects in current PNG LNG Project and the second LNG Project undertaken by InterOil Corp. and because of that, now there is cash flow where people need to do banking with other demands for infrastructure services.
We have to risk our lives on dinghies every time to reach Kerema town spending K200 one way and then proceed to Port Moresby by road.
It has been that way for a long time without having any tangible road and other Government services.
We really want justice done to him as he as failed to live up to his promises. He neglected us for the last 20 years,” said Mr Kapao.
He is also the leader and Chairman for the Segment 7 landowners groups for the Gobe PDL3 & 4 in the PNG LNG Project."

Clean it up Mr O'Neill! I think people must be shaking if they have been stealing funds under old regime. I see O'Neill did as promised; went to the Highlands and distributed funds directly to the proper landowners. He knows how to campaign.
"O’Neill delivers grants as promised
THE O’Neill Namah Government yesterday delivered K120 million in Infrastructure Development Grants (IDG) for 2011 and a further K25 million for Projects in Tari.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Hela Transitional Authority Chairman James Marape braved the heat among more than 5000 people present to witness the cheque presentations. Mr O’Neill also made an announcement that the 2012 IDGs would be paid this year.
The Government also made a commitment to negotiate with LNG partners Exxon Mobil, Esso Highlands and Oil Search for an electricity package and development for Tari town and specifically Hela.
PM O’Neill was accompanied by MRDC boss Augustine Mano, Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc, Cabinet Secretary Chris Haiveta and other leaders.The breakup of the IDG cheque payments include:
* PDL1 - K20m
* PDL2 Kutubu - K10m
* PDL 3 & 4 (Southern Highlands) – K8.2m
* PDL 5 Central Moran - K6m
* PDL 6 Northwest Moran - K12m
* PDL7 South Hides - K15m
* PDL8 Angore - K12m;
* PDL 9 – K11m.
Of the K25 million, Prime Minister O’Neill presented K10 million for the Tari Airport maintenance, and K15 million infrastructure development – K3 million Koroba High School, K2 million Kopiago Road, K5 million Tari Pori and K5 million for Angore roads.
Mr O’Neill told the crowd that the Government was serious about developing Tari and specifically Hela Province.
He appealed to the people to work together, be united and to take a step further in working towards developing their newly established province.
Mr Marabe said: “We will ensure that we honour our commitment so long as the infrastructure development projects and impact projects on the ground are done according to the IDG process and procedures.”
He appealed to all the landowners to be mindful of the procedures now in place and assured that the next IDGs would be delivered if this first disbursement is correctly done.
“If we get the disbursement correct, people are happy then we will be coming back to deliver the same IDG break up for the 2012 in Tari,” he said.
The commitments stem from the Kokopo Umbrella Benefits Sharing Agreements.
However, they had become a contentious issue in the past 12 months as landowners continuously mobbed Vulupindi Haus in Port Moresby for their outstanding payments."
