Gulf Launches 3-Story Admin Building
Members of the Gulf Provincial Executive Council and administration launched their Nine point Eight Million kina administration building complex in Kerema Town today.
Provincial Administrator Marc Avai said public servants and the local members of parliament had been without offices for over 10 years, resulting in ineffective service delivery and lack of infrastructure and social development.
The lack of development in the Gulf Province in the past 10 years has been linked to no office space for the public servants, including the provincial executive council.
Since the burning down of the provincial headquarters building in 2002, the local members of parliament have been operating from their offices in Waigani, whilst the public servants are all cramped up into one building in Kerema town.
Gulf Governor Havila Kavo today held the ground-breaking ceremony in the township, and urged his people particularly the landowners, to cooperate and lift the province’s standards.
Once the 3-story office complex is completed in some 12 months’ time, the provincial government will increase its staffing capacity from 400 to 600.
The provincial administrator is adamant this restructure will improve service delivery for the province.
Illegal tenants currently occupying public servants’ houses in the township were also given notice to evict the houses during this time frame to allow the existing staff to move in.
The governor told his people to embrace development and prepare for more major infrastructural developments to come.
He said the recent increase of government activity in the province is in preparation of the second LNG project and other major resource projects in the pipeline for the province."
Other MAJOR resource projects? Now what could that be? Hohoho
