Hitting more pay in Thailand
Coastal hits more Thai pay

Thailand-focused Coastal Energy has hit more pay on the Bua Ban North field with the B-08 appraisal well in the offshore Songkhla basin.

Josh Lewis 21 December 2011 02:01 GMT

The well was drilled to a total depth of 5200 feet and intersected total aggregate net pay of 175 feet, with average porosity of 27%, across five Miocene pay zones.

Coastal added pay was encountered in the M75 zone for the first time, representing a new productive zone for the field.

“The Bua Ban North B-09 well encountered the largest pay zone we have seen to date in this field,” Coastal chief executive Randy Bartley said.

“We are particularly excited that we have encountered oil across five Miocene zones. This confirms the lateral extent of the deeper pay zones below our main producing reservoir.”

He added the company planned to drill more appraisal wells on the field to continue testing the 63 million barrels of prospective resource defined in a recent report by RPS Energy.

Bartley also revealed Coastal was planning to test the first Bua Ban North A wells next week, which had been delayed due to bad weather.

He said installation of a mobile offshore production unit and completion activities were delayed due to the severe weather conditions, adding the crane of the MOPU was damaged in the wild weather but had now been repaired.
