PTEP Undecided - Or voted off Survivor Gulf LNG?
#1

Man, I thought for sure Miss Thai would win at least win the swimsuit competition.

Sounds like Gulf LNG short-list is at least 5 still.

Thai giant undecided on PNG: exclusive

IN contrast to recent press reports and some industry buzz, Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) is undecided over making any investments in Papua New Guinea.

There were some bold claims in Thailand’s press following the Thai government and business delegation visit to PNG last month.

According to the Bangkok Post at the time, PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill agreed to “grant natural gas concessions to the Thai private sector” during talks with the Thai PM.

“The decision applies especially to PTT Exploration and Production Plc, Thailand's sole oil and gas explorer,” the newspaper reported.

A Bangkok-based PTTEP spokesperson has more recently toldPNGIndustryNews.net that this report was incorrect.

His other comments might also cast doubts on whether PTTEP might have been one of the “national oil” companies that InterOil said was interested in buying a stake of its Elk-Antelope field in PNG.

“PTTEP has been offered many investment opportunities around the world,” the spokesperson said.

“However, up to now, PTTEP has no investment in Papua New Guinea and there is no board resolution for the investment in that country.”

It’s not yet clear what kind of petroleum-related investment PTTEP is considering in PNG.

A Thai government press release before the trip last month said a delegation would “explore investment opportunities in energy” in PNG.

Thai officials visited the under-construction LNG plant for the ExxonMobil-led PNG LNG project during the trip.

Sounds like PTEP hasn't been voted off the island yet.   PTEP clearly after LNG, either Ping Ling expansion or Gulf LNG stake.

A tidy upstream JV would be fine too.

"There is nowhere else for PTEP to go on PNG for LNG"

PTTEP considers energy investment in Papua New Guinea

April 29, 2013

BANGKOK, Thailand --- Thailand’s leading energy explorer is considering an investment plan in Papua New Guinea although the company has conceded that more time is needed before a conclusion is drawn. Tevin Vongvanich, President and Chief Executive Officer of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), revealed that the company’s investment feasibility study has been underway in Papua New Guinea. He stated that the plan was conceived to help Thailand achieve energy security in the future when local demand is expected to surpass domestic supply. The President and CEO of PTTEP said Papua New Guinea is considered a possible investment destination as the country has been discovered with natural gas deposits and its liquefied natural gas development project has already begun. Tevin added that the government of Papua New Guinea extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra during her recent trip to the South Pacific nation for Thailand to conduct an exploration project. He said PTTEP is in the middle of data collection and analysis to determine the quality of the natural gas deposits and if the investment will be worthwhile. PTTEP stressed that more time will be needed before a thorough study in Papua New Guinea can be completed and a decision can be made.
