Singapore LNG Project Nears Completion

Singapore LNG Corporation, which is building the country’s first LNG terminal, said in a project update published on its website that the overall project construction is almost 92% completed.

There has been steady progress on LNG Tanks 1 & 2 where hydrotesting has already started.  All key civil works will be completed by the end of Jul, Singapore LNG said.

Equipment installation and piping erection is well advanced and cable pulling is ongoing. The sea water intake concrete structure is completed and removal of the coffer dam is underway to allow mechanical works to start, the company said.

Progress on the Third LNG Tank continues ahead of schedule and Secondary Berth piling works for both jetties and quay wall are progressing well.

The Singapore LNG Terminal project has exceeded 7.5 million man hours safely worked on the overall project without any lost time injury since the start of the project in February 2010, according to Singapore LNG.

SLNG is well placed to complete the LNG Terminal, ready for operational start up by second quarter of 2013, the company added.

Japan: Tokyo Gas Begins Work on Hitachi LNG Terminal

Tokyo Gas  of Japan started today construction work on the Hitachi LNG terminal which is under preparation for the commencement in FY2015.

Tokyo Gas is now advancing the plan to construct the terminal in Ibaraki port, Hitachi district, Hitachi city, Ibaraki pref. and to install “Ibaraki-Tochigi Line” to connect the Terminal to the existing pipeline in Moka city, Tochigi-pref., by FY2015. This plan was designed to expand the fundamental infrastructure of production and supply to deal with the increasing demand of natural gas toward 2020.

In the terminal shall be installed a non-elevated LNG tank with one of the world’s largest capacity of 230,000 kl, an LPG tank for calorie adjustment, a large jetty to receive ocean-going LNG tankers, etc.

On June 15, Ibaraki prefectural assembly gave an approval for the sale and purchase contract of the planned construction site between Tokyo Gas and Ibaraki prefecture, and both Tokyo Gas and Ibaraki prefecture concluded officially the sale and purchase contract on the same day. Since then were followed the necessary procedures for the site transfer, and today Tokyo Gas started ground-leveling work on the construction site.

This autumn, Tokyo Gas plans to commence facility construction work for an LNG tank, an LPG tank, a large jetty, etc. in the Terminal, and with “Ibaraki-Tochigi Line” which has already been under construction from the side of Tochigi pref. since January, 2012, aims at overall commencement of the Terminal in FY2015.

Thailand and Singapore will shortly commission their first LNG-receiving terminals, to be followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and possibly the Philippines. Within five years nearly all Asian countries could be importing LNG and we are seeing a similar picture in Europe, South America and the Middle East. Global LNG receiving terminal capacity was 350 million tonnes in 2005, 600 million tonnes in 2010 and could reach 950 million tonnes in 2015. [BBC]
