Beasts on the ocean floor

There is a new Avaaz petition to stop the seabed mining and it has a picture of all the NUS equipment made by SMD. It was emailed to me so you will have to look it up but maybe the machines are starting to turn again.

These are old photos (at least a year). FYI all the Nautilus equipment has been listed for sale for a while now;

It's all probably just rusting away in some outdoor storage area at Port Moresby.

Man, those poor old images have been reused countless times. They look so ominous they're perfect for demonstrating the potential damage that will be unleashed.

Too bad no one has any intent to use them, not even the company that had them built and still intends on being the first deep sea mining operation in the world.

It looks like the Avaaz petition is about Norway mining, but why should environmental groups care about the details or misleading the public by displaying equipment that is out dated and has nothing to do with what the petition is about.

Man the machines look so sad. I mean they went so far as to fake announce the loss of the ship to MDL Energy in 2018 only for the Nautilus New Era ship to reappear this year so I wouldn't put anything past them.  Seabed mining is just about to launch and the tools still haven't sold - maybe the terms are intentionally ridiculous just like the loan repayment terms.

It could be all for show is what I'm saying. But maybe not - idk.

What's with these people and not updating their websites in years:

Hi, we have some exploratory deep sea mining equipment for sale. Its primary use is to extract minerals from the sea floor. We should note that this method of extraction was largely rejected by the mining community so we have worked with a new company to develop a more environmentally friendly method for extraction. Please feel free to use this equipment to get rich just don't tell anyone where the minerals came from.

It sounds completely ridiculous, but that's essentially what they're saying now.  The production tools were tailored made and designed specifically for Solwara 1 and sulphide deposits / crust mining in particular. PNG does not have nodules.  What new "sensitive method" would be so much better now -  only 7 years after they were built?

I'm just skeptical of all of this. Also the DMC Saleyard is a web based sales platform? Is this how 100 million dollar + machines are sold now??

I agree. We have so little information theres no way to know what these folks are really doing. I think its less about a mastermind plot and more about some billionaires navigating an emerging industry and leaving there options open. Sell the machines for a huge price. Keep the machines for later use. Its clearly not a fire sale for some quick cash.

I doubt there is any new method that is better or worse. I don't think there will ever be any science that can actually predict the true impact of any method. More important is that they closely monitor operations and shut it down if its doing significant damage.

Maybe if they don't get any leads on DMC Saleyard they will list on ebay or facebook marketplace??
