Kavo and the Gulf Provincial government are in full-press mode recruiting teachers and other workers for the increased activity around the 2nd LNG project now known to be the Total/IOC/PNG/? JV. Kavo knows what's coming and this type of planning is not done without a very high expectation that the project will get done.
"The Gulf Provincial Government has embarked on a recruitment drive to beef up its human resource.
It currently has a staff ceiling of 450 which is not sufficient to meet the growing demand from the people in the province.
Recently, 43 teachers were recruited from the Gaulim Teachers College to serve in schools in the province.
43 students sponsored by the Gulf Provincial Government were among 295 teachers that graduated from Gaulim Teachers College recently.
They are part of the provincial governments’ initiative to boost its human resource.
Of the 450 staff ceiling in the Gulf Province, only 25 per cent are productive. While the others are redundant.
The provincial government admitted that it was lagging behind in human resource and that gap needs to be bridged.
Governor Havila Kavo says it is part of the Gulf Vision 2020 to grow the human resource of the province.
He says, the education sector in the province is one of the poorest and those teachers recruited have a critical role in improving the education standard in the province.
The partnership, forged with Gaulim Teachers College, has seen a total of 60 students from Gulf Province graduate in the last two years.
Apart from this it has recruited another 40 students from the college to serve in the province.
Mr. Kavo says, it will continue to send more students to Gaulim in the coming years.
The province is experiencing a time of economic boom with the onset of the second LNG Project and Governor Kavo is optimistic of having enough skilled workers to be part of the project."
