DPE secretary Rendle Rimua charged with corruption
#1
Rendle Rimua the secretary at DPE and Mr Duma's right hand man has been charged with corruption by the anti-corruption commission. This is the guy that was the most vocal last fall when the flare-up happened where he stated IOC was in violation of the PA etc, and was very vocal about Shell. This could change things in IOC's favor.
"RENDLE Rimua – often considered a right-hand man of Petroleum and Energy Minister William Duma within industry circles – has reportedly been charged by Papua New Guinea’s fraud and anti-corruption squad.

While Rimua was operating as a “caretaker” secretary for the Department of Petroleum and Energy, he was first appointed as DPE secretary back in 2007 under the Somare government.

According to The National, Rimua was arrested at Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby a week ago after returning from a Ministerial Development Corporation board meeting in Cairns.

After three hours of police questioning, he was reportedly charged with one count of official corruption, one count of abuse of office, another count of conspiracy and one count of misappropriation of public funds.

National Fraud and Anti-Corruption agency head Timothy Gitua told the PNG newspaper that the four charges stemmed from an allegation over falsely claiming public funds totalling more than 249,500 kina ($A111,330).

While Rimua’s case has been deferred until May 7, DPE staff reportedly called on the government to appoint a secretary as Rimua’s four-year term expired in April 2011.

Rimua had responsibility for organising meetings for the umbrella benefits-sharing agreement and licence-based benefit sharing agreements for the PNG LNG project.

Amid recent protests, PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill stripped the finance portfolio from Treasurer Don Polye almost two weeks ago due to failures with landowner payments under the PNG LNG project and cost overruns at the Ministry of Finance."

This is intriguing news. At a time when other bidders are personally meeting with O'Neil about operating the Gulf LNG project, one of the biggest supporters in operation Zebra (aka Shell) is being muzzled hard.

Is this a message to Duma?
Does this significantly hinder Shell's bid?
Why do I get a sense that this is good news for IOC?

One thing is for sure, this isn't a dull stock.

Health and Happiness,

And what was his cut from the Exxon deal approval????
Both Somare's paid cash $600,000 each for their houses in Port Douglas after the Exxon deal.IOC will not pay. Thus we have the leaks to the press whereby the PNG can't deny bidders. Find it curious the only bidders names released are Japex and Kogas.Duma will be made to look good is my take. He wants IOC's project bigger and sooner . Is he corrupt I don't know???For sure he can't deny Japex and Kogas.

Huh,
Didn't O'Neill say there was to be an upcoming ministerial shake-up?
This witch hunt is getting kinda close to Duma.
Dirty or not, he's likely toeing the line.
