The reef and 2200 foot gas column was confirmed when they found the top of the carbonate as expected. When they found the carbonate high, at the elevation expected, that confirmed the presence of the reef and validated the seismic picture. I think I read that somewhere already.

The gas in the mud while drilling the shale above the carbonate does not have any commercial significance. It is just a kind of indication that you are drilling in a gas “province”. They always see this in these wells. See my post #6569 on January 17th. With the kind of gas we have in the reef we will not be worrying about shale gas. Maybe in a few decades in someone else’s lifetime, not ours.

Thanks Pet. Wish I had half the understanding of this that you do, but that's why it's good to have your expertise and input. This whole process is extremely intriguing and it amazes me how IOC has been able to do this kind of precise seismic work in these jungles. Phil's comments also are interesting where he mentions their targets are basically exclusively reefs. It's obvious they've had a very good idea for a long time what they are sitting on. Also of interest is the license areas they have decided to keep when they renew. Seem to be very strategic "path" along the string of pearls from NW to SE. With their comments that Triceratop's closure could extend further yet to the NW outside of the current phase 3 work done, they could drill there for many years it seems.

Well, I didn't (although I sort off inferred as much), thanks for making that clear. It needs pointing out because it looks like not everybody is aware of this.. :-P

So; for clarity, we know that there is a reef, and we know there"s dolomite. We dont know size or porosity or permeability yet, but the confirmation of a reef and dolomite seems to be HUGE, am I overestimating the importance of this Pet? It seems from the seizmics and with this confirmation we go from 90% to 99% probability now of something very significant.

I took the following from the post to confirm there is dolomite.

Mulacek said drilling at the T-2 well is going pretty smoothly and the well is at the top of the targeted reef and confirmed limestone/dolomite reservoir.

Spartina- http://www.interoil.com/presentation/201..._Final.pdf chart 18 was the pre-drill seismic picture. Drilling has confirmed the presence of the reef as expected, actually a little higher than prognosis. So I think we can raise it to 100% on finding the reef. We will have to wait for drilling to find out about the presence of a significant amount of dolomite and/or good porosity limestone like (or better than) we had at Antelope. As you may know we are hoping the porosity is better than Antelope because of the more shallow depth. When we drill into the reservoir below the 9 5/8” casing we will probably lose circulation and get a gas kick somewhere in the first couple of hundred feet. We should get some drilling cuttings for analysis until we lose circulation and convert over to pressure managed drilling. After that we will not be getting drilling cuttings at the surface. So we will have to wait for logs and cores to see what the percentage of dolomite is, see what the porosity is and determine the net/gross (the percentage of gross pay that is “real” pay).
Yes, I think the confirmation of the presence of the reef is “huge”. I think we now have a pretty good idea of the size of the field except I would still like to know if there is a reef on the western high and what the end of the field looks like to the west. I gave you my estimate of the Triceratops resource yesterday based on having reef at the T-2 and reef at the other two highs on the East end of the Field.
My number for the estimated resource volume at Triceratops is 7.345 TCF gross (4.26 TCF net IOC).
GLJ’s best case estimate for Antelope is 8.59 TCF gross. So with the two fields my guess of the gross resource number is (8.59 + 7.345) 15.9 TCF (9.2 TCF net IOC). Is that HUGE for IOC? Yes!!
