Wrong-o; the report was filed timely and reports progress in drilling and 9 meters of core was obtained.

yep, my predictions were "spot awful" this time. Sounds to me like they've drilled 460+ meters of carbonate and are still drilling. Appears that the reef is still really huge on the western side of the fault and probably multi T's of gas in this separate compartment. I doubt they would still be drilling if it was wet or had poor reservoir properties.

My cynical prediction of this hitting a 2 bln barrel OIL field below Antelope may be coming true. But what does this mean for dissenters? If you haven't accepted a deal yet, and your argument is that this acreage that IOC gave away is prolificly charged with HC's, is this usable evidence in court? Or will the court say, NO sorry but your valuation has to be based on what was known when the deal was announced? Doesn't matter if PNG is the next Saudi Arabia and all the HCs are in IOC acerage that they gave away.

We have enough chest-beating about “predictions”. I’ll point to one: So, my take is that they’ve topped the limestone shortly above the 2773m mark, have run a liner and will core and drill the reservoir … I also think they've seen gas. The limestone was encountered at 2766 m. From that point, I’m not so sure. Yes, they ran the liner, and took a 30’ core, but have drilled ahead, going to 3300m (another prediction). Nothing about additional logging. So, I’m a little surprised, that they didn’t do more coring. My guess is the top is generally tight (hence no more coring) but that they did see gas, either in the mud or in porous streaks, so they’ve drilled ahead and will take their chances with what the logs will show.
BTW, my worst prediction was the correlation between a great exploration province (string of pearls) and the stock market.

Any chance this deeper gas or oil field could shed light on the type of drive in the main field?

None of that is assured. You won't get any info from either Exxon or Total, but Oil Search likes to toot their horn, so maybe we'll learn something on Oil Search's next monthly report. Or if it's significant they may put out a news release. Unless you get 400-500 feet of pay, I wouldn't get excited. A single well isn't going to add that much to reserves. |
