Why has US employment not recovered?

Quite some machinations to reach the conclusion that concerns about loss of sales contributed to a loss of jobs during the Great Recession. I suppose sometimes it's the journey not the destination :-)

Yes, this is actually pretty lame stuff for an economist still (no models used or estimated here), but it's how they get published. The conclusion isn't surprising with a $9T elephant in the room..
