Listen to Dr. Fesharaki very carefully; a global expert in LNG who has been involved in PNG for many years and knows all the players personally.

Lease expiration is a real-life way for governments to put pressure on companies who do not set up projects to monetize the assets on schedule.
According to Dr. Fesharaki, IOC must make a deal soon or face losing their leases. His musings on this issue begin at about 5:30 into the interview.
He said "The Government can use License renewal to ensure a project is formed." He "hopes" that the decision will be made by IOC very soon.
Does this mean IOC will lose any leases ...
+ no if they form a project in the near future
+ yes if they don't make a deal soon
This is why IOC shareholders with an understanding of how the buisness world works are doing what they can to remind IOC management that it's finally time to make a deal and move ahead with the Gulf LNG Project.
IOC shareholders on this board who sanction management to jump over $100 bills to chase the nickel rolling down the street are being extremely foolish; the risk of losing Licenses is real and Dr. Fesharaki, a very knowledgeable consultant in the business, expresses this risk very eloquently.
I think the saying "Ignorance is bliss" is very appropriate when it comes to IOC ... some who post on SHU are in a state of constant ecstasy
