Oil Search only encounters "minor gas shows" over a total of 71 gross meters in its third and final well of its offshore drilling campaign. It's increasingly evident that Exxon, Shell and now Total (and possibly even Oil Search) must work with or acquire InterOil to economically attain and develop the resources they need for LNG projects in PNG...
DRILLING REPORT – 29 August 2013
WELL NAME: Kidukidu 1, PNG
Oil Search reports that as at 06:00 hours PNG time on 29 August, the
Kidukidu 1 well was at a total depth of 2,697 metres and preparations were
underway to pull out of the hole and run wireline logs.
During the week, 9-5/8” casing was set and 477 metres of 8-1/2” hole was
drilled. Minor gas shows were encountered within two sand intervals, of 51
metres and 20 metres gross thickness respectively, which will be evaluated
further with the logging programme.
The Kidukidu prospect, which lies 268 kilometres west-northwest of Port
Moresby, is in a water depth of 98 metres. The primary objective is a
submarine, basin-slope fan sandstone of Pleistocene age.
Kidukidu 1 is the third and final well to be drilled in the current Oil Search
offshore Gulf of Papua campaign.
