Oil Search Drilling Report
#12
Trans, I believe that this well is a lost cause and that in all probability other gas plays of this nature in the basin will have a huge probability of also being lost causes based on the results of these 3 wells. I suspect no one will target this sort of play deliberately again in the basin. The target depth of 2800m was just a target depth, not the exact depth they were going for. The depth of just short of the target depth is probably all that they will drill, so there is no hope of any improvement in gas discovery in this well.

Palm, it is not a sense of humour that is required. It is that some of the statements being made are totally wrong and in no way reflect reality that I do have issue with.
Let me elaborate:

" We understand that the formations MAY yet prove out to have immense finds for OSH and Total and possibly underpin Trains 3, 4 ...."
Totally wrong as firstly Kidukidu is in PPL244 and Total has ZERO ownership in PPL244. It is also totally wrong that Total in any way is targeting gas for Trains 3,4..... etc. Those targets were for floating LNG plants should they prove viable.

" It's understood that you ONLY go by what info is in front of you, but that didn't work out so well when we were discussing that it was reasonable to think that IOC might be asking for ownership in any PNG LNG trains for which it might supply gas and not just be looking to sell gas to the project"
Based on the information available at the time, it was unreasonable to make the assumption that PNGLNG partners would consider IOC as a partner in their LNG plant ... that was my argument. There was nothing by the partners to suggest this. Based on information coming from OSH very late in the argument, there was finally a statement from one of the PNGLNG partners that thought is being given by the partners of IOC inclusion as a possibility, .... but this outcome is still one of a number of possibilities that can eventuate. Based on that new information I modified my stance that IOC as a partner is now possible. I still have no confidence this is a 100% certainty like some people suggest, but it is now one of the possibilities. We will have to wait and see what eventuates further.

"To cut through the humor of my post and add to what a couple of others have said here, from the 3 wells drilled it appears that results may have been less than what was expected and it will be interesting to see whether more wells are drilled and whether Total elects to participate in the costs thereof."
My reply to this should be clear enough from my reply to Trans at the start of this post.

"Miss your Smile ; try and put it back on."
Now what it the code for that face with the tongue poking out ....... it just would not do for us both to use smile faces in the one post?
