Jobs and the US recovery

You raise an interesting point, Art. For 200 years (at least), automation has only 'displaced' jobs, not destroyed them on a net basis (in fact, quite the contrary), but this time might indeed be different. Automation first got people off the land into industry, and then from industry into services, but it isn't entirely straightforward what's happening now..
