I talked to my O&G investor friend (professional). His view now is that Exxon is probably bidding for the whole company and that's why exclusivity lapsed. He said that if they went exclusive on buyout talks (not farm-in talks) they would have to PR it which was a problem, so no choice to let exclusivity lapse so they can have discussions on what it would take to buy the whole company. He thinks obviously Shell got wind of this so it's getting VERY interesting. I just wanted to pass that along.
In hindsight now it makes perfect sense. Why pay $2 or $3 per million cubic foot when you can buy the whole IOC for say $2.50 plus all of the upside.
