PNG LNG Partners and Feedstock
#1

ExxonMobil and its co-owners in the Papua New Guinea liquefied natural gas (PNG LNG) project continue to work hard to mature their own undeveloped discoveries as feedstock for a potential expansion.

Oil Search, one of the co-owners, has already said that the P’nyang and Juha fields are still two years away from being ready for a final investment decision.

It said engineering, environmental and social baseline field studies on the P’nyang field in Block PRL 3 were carried out during the three months to 30 September, and “focused on the potential use of the gas to help underpin an expansion of the PNG LNG project”. A 2D seismic programme over the field was suspended for a few months during the wet season and restarted in early October.

Seismic work is also expected to restart soon on the Juha field in Block PDL 9.

“Additional resources from these programmes, and exploration leads in the area, could potentially contribute to LNG expansion,” added Oil Search.

The US$19 billion two-train foundation project is more than 90% complete, and remains on track for first LNG deliveries in the second half of 2014.

The owners are operator ExxonMobil, Oil Search, PNG government company Independent Public Business Corporation, Santos, Nippon Oil, PNG’s Mineral Resources Development Company and PNG national oil company Petromin.
