Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has assured China that overdue Chinese projects in PNG will be fast-tracked by his government.

He made this commitment while in China for the 2nd China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development Corporation Forum.

Making mention of the Pacific Industrial Maritime Zone Project and the Community College Concept, Mr. O’Neill said the government is committed to ensuring that these projects get underway.

National Planning Minister, Charles Abel, Member for Komo Magarima, Francis Potape, and NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, were part of the PNG delegation.

The 2nd China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Corporation Forum was held in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province.

Prime Minister O’Neill commended China for its continued assistance and for encouraging social and economic development.

He admitted to the slow pace at which some projects were moving in PNG, but assured China that this will be addressed soon.

Prime Minister O’Neill reaffirmed the forum that China is a major development partner of PNG’s major resources.

He said PNG looks forward to a growing relationship with China and also to diversify on PNG exports to China.

He expressed his hopes for the two countries to partner in meeting China’s energy needs and food requirements.
