The Leader of the People's National Congress (PNC), Peter O'Neill is confident of the party forming government.

O'Neill, the Member-elect for Ialibu Pangi, says early results from counting nationwide, look promising.

PNC has seven members declared so far.

According to the Electoral Commission's party standing summary, 21 PNC members are leading in various seats but this may change overnight.

This is out of the 89 candidates that the party has endorsed.

O'Neill says people obviously want his party's policies and programs to continue, which is showing in their support to PNC candidates.

Chief Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen says he is confident of completing the 2012 national election on time.

The two last provinces that polled late, Chimbu and Eastern Highlands, have started counting of primary votes.

Trawen says this is exactly one week before all writs are to be returned, which he will submit to the Governor General, before July 27.

He expressed his gratitude for the excellent work of the combined security personnel all over the county, saying their job was not an easy one.

And, Trawen again reiterated to the Returning Officers and Election Managers, to immediately return the writs to the Electoral Commission in Port Moresby, once a declaration is made.

The deadline is July 25, which is next Wednesday.
