Nowadays, there seems to be a raging debate about the difference between "tourists" and "travelers." The term "tourist" has become an insult, a culturally insensitive stereotype found sunburnt and selfie stick in hand. Travelers, on the other hand, are lauded as adventurous, savvy, and willing to step out of their comfort zones. However, there’s much to be said for the unpretentious ways of a so-called tourist.

Indec, as the statistics agency is known, released revised figures for GDP between 2004 and 2015 after its calculation consistently diverged from private estimates. The new calculations showed the previous series overestimated growth by 18 percent, Cerro said. The inaccuracies were most pronounced during years when the new series finds that the economy contracted. For example, in 2009 the revised calculations show the economy contracted by 6 percent compared to an estimate of 0.1 percent growth under the previous government. The economy shrank 2.6 percent in 2014 even though the previous government said it grew 0.5 percent.

Rio Tinto Group has given away its stake in the company that owns a mine in Papua New Guinea with potential copper and gold reserves worth $51 billion. The London-based miner has transferred its 54 percent holding in Bougainville Copper Ltd., owner of the abandoned Panguna mine, to an independent trustee “for no consideration,” Rio said in a statement Thursday. The trustee will manage the distribution of shares to national and local governments. Panguna, Bougainville Copper’s asset on Bougainville Island, was shut due to local unrest in 1989. The company estimated in its 2014 annual report that reserves stood at 5.3 million metric tons of copper and 19.3 million ounces of gold. That would be worth about $51 billion at today’s prices.

Hong Kong has had a rough year so far. Exports of goods and services declined in the first quarter of 2016, a continuation of the territory's downbeat trade outlook, and private consumption growth plummeted to less than half of its 2015 rate. And according to a new note from BMI Research, things are going to get only worse. Hong Kong's performance earlier this year wasn't an anomaly — it was an indicator of a long decline to come. Accordingly, BMI downgraded its 2016 real-GDP growth forecast for Hong Kong to 1.2% from 1.7%, and cut its 2017 forecast from 2.2% to 1.7%.
