LNG can't be distributed through a pipeline. It would warm up and expand in an uncontrolled fashion. Boom! (A tanker truck would be a mobile bomb. :-) ) Methane is only stable in the liquid form at very low temperatures. It takes an expensive plant (the "terminal" at the receiving end to safely transform the very cold dense LNG to much expanded much warmer natural gas, the stable gaseous form which can be distributed through pipelines.

While I certainly agree that long distance LNG pipelines do not seem credible technologically at this time, the use of LNG to fuel trucks has now been well established.  Google provides many references , here's one:  http://energy.aol.com/2012/02/07/lng-trucks-can-keep-on-trucking-la-to-salt-lake/.  Of course, LNG is transported by trucks as well, with all necessary attention paid to the temperatures and pressures involved.

One "nice" thing about natural gas as a vehicle fuel.  Interestingly, unlike propane or heavier hydrocarbon gasses, because methane is lighter than air, if a vessel should rupture the gas and/or fireball rises rather than spreads at ground level.
