You have excellent ideas!! . Another solution if a stock price is cut in half is to buy an equal dollar amount to original purchase which is twice the shares . Get a recovery to your original puchase dollar investment and sell out the highest price shares . Some even use a 3 to one ratio and it gets done quicker . Interoil has recovered to $60 several times making this a solid proven idea .
That way your are not to far over loaded for extended periods . Taxable accounts are easier to not over load than Retirement accounts . The key is to trade part of the volatility .
If your cost is $72 and you own 100 shares buy 200 more at $36 . Do the math it works .

I got to get me one of those unlimited money accounts. Always buy, never sell and don't worry about 40% drops because in 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 we will be very rich.
