Antelope 5 is done. A4 is drilling again

In the US a 30 foot gas column is a big discovery here at Ant 5 PET's best guess above is we have 2277 feet of gas column. If we have a successful connectivity test which seems fair then we are going a long ways to proving out GLJ vs GCA.

Thanks again, Pet! That is extremely helpful. I hope I'm not showing my geological ignorance, but I guess that means the A5 well bottom is still above the fault, with more formation further west. Perhaps someday they might want to drill again further west, or would production reveal any such additional volume?

Yes, I think they are far enough from the fault that we will see the full gas column all the way to the gas/water contact. It all depends on the angle of the fault. I made some guesses based on various angles. At 45 degrees they drill within about 0.7 km without hitting the fault. At 22.5 degrees within about 1.6 km and at 15 degrees within about 2.5 km.

I doubt that we will see any more wells west of Antelope-5 at anytime in the near future. For the life of the field we will have to wait and see if they find any compartmentalization that might require more that the expected number of wells.

Pet, that sounds even more exciting to me! Could they not tell something about the angle of the fault from seismic in that area? If so, could that assist the resource engineers in estimates for the area west of A5? I assume the flow tests will reveal any compartmentalization affecting connection with the other wells in the tests. That won't tell them about compartmentalization west of A5, right? If no compartmentalization west to the fault, will those volumes be reflected in measurements of the total E/A resource based on production in future years, and therefore perhaps get reflected in a final certification?

Any thoughts on the fault now, based on Petrengr1's evaluations with numbers and supreme logic instead of your prognostications of dubious intentions?

How many starships does Kirk have to lose before criticism is appropriate? Given that Total is the PRL 15 operator I would say that drilling PNG should be an IOC core competency. IOC is not acknowledging the problem and that approach never works.

"Should be" certainly became "was".  Numerous mistakes were made, mistakes that took many months to develope, recognize, react to and correct.  Sometimes it would be nice to fire a contractor or sub on the spot but the best you can do is suffer through to the end of the contract and then part ways.   Maybe that all has happened with the decision being made airing out the dirty laundry would ultimately do more harm than good.  Time will tell if the core corrections have been made.

As has become the SOP, we just have to wait and see.  In any case the waterwell at Hydes deep has made IOC's new discoveries all the more valuable to those wanting to see PNG LNG expand.
